Hey guys, I have a passion for policing and wanted to join the force. Problem is I have a potential in photography as well. So I don't want to abandon that potential totally by joining as a regular. I'm 22 right now and just finished NS in the army.

I've read online and best thing I could do to experience being in the force is to join as a VSC. Honestly speaking, money isn't a problem, I'm more interested to join to fulfill my passion. Ultimately, my dream is to join as the Traffic Police - be it as a Regular or VSC.

Any inputs? Best if you're in the VSC as well.

1. Is it a wise decision, or will volunteering still takes up alot of my time. 16hours a month duty sounds short to me, maybe there is something else other than the 16hours.

2. Will the VSCs be treated poorly in the force?

3. What are the limitations of being a VSC? I want to do whatever normal officers do, just that I cannot have the commitment.

4. How will the training go? Is it the same as BPT?

5. Is it easy to get into a vocation I really have a passion for - Traffic Police?

1. 16hrs is the minimum hours required. you can clock more hours than tht if u wish.

2. no. u will not be treated poorly. in fact u will be treated equally if not better. most of the time, u will be the 2nd man in the patrol car. u do what the regulars do.

3. limitations not much.

4. training will be after work hours for lessons and some weekends.

5. where u will go after training depends on manpower requirements. of course u can voice ur preference but that will really depend on requirements

You can request for TP position but mostly you will post to be NPCO which most VSCs will like to arrange 2 x 12+ hours shifts on weekend (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) to clear their minimum requirement of 16 hours of duty per month.

You do the same things as PO but your promotion will be very slow unlike the REG. Ex-REG can carry the same rank to VSC but VSC cannot carry the same rank to be REG. You are to commit basic non-residential training in the evenings, twice a week, for a duration of 9 months.

If you have a degree & can perform as a VSC, SPF will try to push you to go command school & be an INSP. However as a SPO(VSC), your job will be doing admin work in HQ rather then patrolling unlike what the ASP is doing in the video.

Where did you serve your NS? SAF ? SCDF? SPF?
