Hi,

I have 0 IT knowledge but want to learn CCNA then change career into IT.

Actually I checked some training centres are providing the course, for me the cost is expensive. Just thinking if I could get some advices from you guys here. Any ccna holders here can share your experience with me?Where did you take the course? How much is the cost?

Thanks in advance

Today morning I thought I should be asking the above question. However I am more keen in hardware. Since you already asked then perhaps I shall wait for replies.

I'm 36 years old. As a mechanical engineer I was in same situation one year ago. I decided to change my carrer after I saw my colleague got fired. Now I'm a network engineer.. I took priave training course by two CCIE, it's much more cheaper.....they teach quite well. PM me if you want the contact. But remember in order to get real knowledge you need to read book and do a lot of Lab practice as well.

Ccna is pretty basic. Is it still useful?

Yes, at least for me.....some of my current colleagues has far more experience than me but I feel their fundamental not there. Some basic things they not clear.

I really study hard that time, at my age it's not easy to change career. I think it worth it.

You probably should look at your end goal/game. If the special network side is it or not.

At the end of the day, the cert is just a means to get an entry level job at least. So it is definitely still useful. As in IT, employers tend to look at your interest and are more willing to guide if you know the basics at least, so taking CCNA shows your commitment.

I think still much easier for someone from engineering to switch to IT compared to like finance/nursing/etc as the analytical skills picked up in engineering greatly helps.

There are fundings out there which you can use for professional certs.

CCNA is good to have but not necessarily a need nowadays, usually network engineers would go for it.

Hi all, wanna check if it is necessary to have CCENT first before picking up CCNA?
Also realised that CCNA have different categories like Wireless, Routing and Switching, Security, etc. If I'm looking at building up my career path in networking, do I go down Routing and Switching?

Just a simple background, I have a dip in mech eng, work experience of 10+ yrs in Mech and Logistics fields. Just landed my first IT Support Engineer job, but found my technical knowledge severely lacking. Whatever I learn about network fundamentals from playing with my routers at home ain't gonna cut it at my current work place.
