Don't think so, different brand has different process/quality.

i did some research and they were saying there's a software call wdidle it can increase the head idle park rate or disable it, because the so call power saving intellii feature its actually killing the drive wear and tear?

any one try it?

Yes. Tried it and it really lowers the Load/Unload cycle count. Not sure if it helps to extend the lifespan of the drive though.

Now my Seagates (2/3TB) are having way higher Load/Unload cycle counts than my WD Greens and there is no way to tweak it. :s8:

Not sure about current os, but winxp has a hdd power management that needs to be turned off if you treasure your hdds. It will send the hdds to their graves.

Hitachi was the reliable brand to go for, but ever since they have been bought over by WD, fewer of their make exist in market. All my six hitachi-s are still surviving for more than 6 years.

i try to avoid wd and seagate, and have to go for toshiba (the untested brand).

If you need data to recover from functional hdd but for some reason it failed to show up, i recommend using easeus Data Recovery Wizard Pro. Use their free edition to detect if the data still exist, and extract some data. If that doesnt work, high chances that the hdd is a goner.

I am testing Toshiba desktop drives:
4pcs of 2TB in my NAS (since Sep 2014)
1pc of 1TB as storage drive in desktop (since Jul 2014)

My NAS is synology ds414, cool by twin 90mm fans at the rear.
Load temperature is slightly < 40°C while idle is around 35°C.

Haha, enterprise version at budget price.
Oops, i made a mistake. WD got its own enterprise version. black version is machiam mini raptor for speed. Price wise about the same as enterprise version, as well as the same 5 years warranty.
