I was quoted this amount 4.2k to 4.3k for this WHARFDALE setup. Cables price not included yet.
WHARFDALE EVO 4.2 L/R
WHARFDALE EVO 4C
WHARFDALE Diamond 12.0 (As Rear surround)
WHARFEDALE WCM-65 CEILING SPEAKER, ATMOS, DTS-X, DOLBY DIGITAL, SURROUND, STEREO
WHARFDALE SW150
DENON AVR1700

Will this setup sound better than a full SONOS setup (ARC, Woofer and 2xERA 300) for all the trouble needed to set it up (Cabling, Mounting of ceiling speakers). Price is approximately the same if i were to choose SONOS setup.
Just setting up in the BTO 4 room living room. Mainly for watching shows

Personally for me, I would choose Sonos for the ease of setting, but you would need good wifi, otherwise might cause issue.

Since it is a 4rm BTO unit, i reckon sonos would look much better

But naturally, the ATMOS part, have to take it with a pinch of salt since the up firing speakers cannot match having physical overhead speakers.

Sleek vs speakers all around :)

I am using the same sonos set up as you had suggested.

I will vote for Sonos due to ease of setting up and room correction.

using the Sonos setup like what you suggested, but with 2 subwoofers. If not urgent can wait awhile because Sonos arc 2 most likely launching soon.

Flat will only be ready in maybe 6-9 months time. Just about to start planning renovations. If SONOS's system is going to be on par with the 7.1.2. I will probably go SONOS as suggested. 2 Woofers probably will be overkill for me :)

2 woofers are not overkill, is to balance out the bass response. Doesn’t mean will be loud. Even for my music my kef setups are also dual subwoofers.

I vote the Wharfedale, because I made a similar decision 3 years ago when I moved into my new place. Wife heard a Sonos setup at a furniture shop and was quite impressed, and I said I could do better with similar amount of money, and got a Q Acoustics/Polk setup.

Only thing I would change is to get another sub instead of the Wharfedale. You don't need to match subs.

Sonos would only win in the looks department (if you or your wife/family prefer a less intrusive look) and possibly ease of use. It would get smoked in the sound quality department.

A soundbar based solution is neater, more integrated but if you're after the whole soundfield and surround experience, it won't match a properly setup HT system..

Honestly, if you ask me, for bto 4 room living room I would just go for a very good 2.1 setup. You could get better speakers and amp for your budget.

But if you insist on 5.1 ht setup, have you consulted your wife on this because I think those boxy wharfedales all over the living room will have low WAF…

I would suggest taking a look at 5.1 Elipson Planet M as well, much easier to blend into decor.

Is it possible to hide the centre speaker and the AVR into 2 customized openings (1 on top of the other) of the TV console. Will the output of the centre speaker be affected. Since it is supposed to be projected forward towards the user. Was planning to place the L/R on top of the TV console. Will the 2 speakers be too close to each other. Based on the readings of the living room layout. The short-end of the wall where i intend to have the TV and TV console mounted is only 3.2m long. Can Subwoofer be wireless? Or i need to lay a very long cable if i intend to have it placed somewhere else

Subwoofer you can use SVS wireless kit to eliminate the long cable.

I think should be no issue if your L/R channel on the TV console if you are just listening for two people, can also experiment with different degrees of toeing in or out. Alternatively you can consider wall mounting the L/R.

My wife will be happier with the Elipson. laugh. How's the sound those small speakers. And how much does it cost.

Elipson Planet are pretty good, typical French sound, fast with lush mid.

Absolute does have a showroom setup with the Planets at Adelphi and they selling the 5.1 set for 3150$ before discount. While at at Adelphi, you could visit the other shops offering HT setups.

I would prefer Sonos setup than bookshelf speakers setup, easy and user friendly to add multi room speakers if you can.

How long is the TV console, 3m fully utilising the wall? Anything shorter than that the clarity and distinctiveness of the channels will likely suffer with a centre channel setup. Openings in a customised TV console? Not really a big deal given the small exhaust ports and using a sub as long as you align it to the edge. It can suffer from adjustability like tilt unless you have at least an extra 3-4" vertical allowance. AVR in a cubicle depends on having adequate spacing around it or permanently running in Eco mode for the sake not overheating.

Living in new BTO probably go for sub mini will work, 2 sub your neighbours knocks door later.

even tho my beam gen 1 sound output already feel impact from bass.
If adding sub, that is great just don’t set high bass on EQ level.
Except for those level in the condo , the sound proofing so much better to compare in new BTO flat.

Have the intention of having a console across the whole wall, thats why i could not afford the space to place the woofer and need to have it somewhere else. probably next to my 3 seater sofa that will be pushed to the back of the longer end of the other wall. I will have to wall mount the surrounds due to space constraints. If i choose to get the HT over the soundbar option.

My biggest headache is, i have a WASUKA Karaoke System. a 19" touch panel and 2 speakers. I really dont know where to place it. I was enquiring whether if there is an option to integrate my Karaoke system using the HT system that i am planning to setup. But was told, Karaoke systems need to have its own set of speakers and cannot be used together with any HT setup.

How do you guys with karaoke system have it setup in the living room. Any suggestions. An option is to do away with the 19" touch panel and control using the phone app. But speakers how?

From the questions you ask and your wish list
You’re not really interested in sound
Get the sound bar solution
Wireless as desired and elegant

Agree. Soundbar unlikely to beat a properly setup discrete HT system in creating a good Atmos sound field. OTOH soundbar will be neat & tidy. TS seems inclined to soundbar.

I beg to differ. I am more inclined to HT, but i cannot eliminate the WAF factor. I need to make it as neat as possible. Requesting a wireless subwoofer is to eliminate the possible unsightly cables around since i cannot have it placed near the TV console due to space restraint.
I will let the ID plan in due course. (Where to hide equipment without affecting sound quality much). Eg, false walls, ceilings. If its still over-cluttered and my wife is not acceptable. i will get a soundbar instead.
