Anyone working at Aftershock before? From this video, it sounds like a PC needs to be built every hour. Each builder needs to complete building 8-10 PCs a day.

Even building my own rig, I took about four hours at the quickest bearing in mind it post without issues and all hardware in working order after assembly. If I take such a long time to build a single rig at Aftershock, I believe that I may be terminated after a day. What's the working culture like? Are they rushing through every build to meet quotas?

Cheaper, Faster, Better. All 3.

If you get to visit a local custom PC build conveyor in SZ China, much faster than this.

When it comes to assembly and manufacturing, we still “pi yan”.

Old rigs are easier to build. Laterally no need to do much cable management as the chassis were without glass panels. Can just shove everything in. Nowadays there are AIO, liquid cooling systems and all sorts of big air coolers and not forgetting added accessories such as RGB hub/fans, light strips and sensor panels.

Not really, old case back panel have very small space and psu cables back then were bulky instead of flat. Kinda hard to close the back panel fully.

HAHAHA.
This is so true, my first self build pc was in 1997 and help so many people build their pc over the years.
Still remember that year if you can get the newest seagate ATA you are really rich.
500mb was budget build and if you can afford 4GB in 1997 you are quite rich.
All the cable were fatter and less flexible and space was limited.
There were the floppy disk drives for 5.25 and 3.5 disks plus the CD rom drive, which is alot of cable.
Oh and I remember that in early 2000s if you have 128GB for your PC you are rich.
Creative sound card was a thing and then graphic card starts to appear.

It is really so much easier when transparent case became popular. And product that cares about the internal aesthetic became cheaper then become the norm.
