for me a must do is to visit a scenic Place such as alishan or taroko gorge. Taiwan has a lot of breathtaking scenery… I blogged little about alishan and rainbow village in taiwan, you can have a look here.

Another must is to visit their night market, as others have already said. Raohe/shilin in taipei and fengchia in taichung are very famous.

To me a hot spring visit is also nice, though not a must have. I’ll be blogging about this later but can post photos and details here if you’re interested. Quite a few places to experience hot spring in taiwan…

When are you planning to go? The season you’re going also affects the types of activities and attractions to visit, I think…

Depends on what you want.

Sea/ocean, mountains, scenary?

City, shopping?

There's a lot of places for camping and hiking/treking.

Of cos there's plenty of places for shopping too.

I think the most interesting place I've been in my recent trip, is the Shi Ti Ping scenic area and the Water Running Up site. I particularly enjoyed the ride with the awesome views of the Pacific Ocean!

Try the cold spring in Su-Ao!

There are only two cold spring resources in the whole world, one is at Sicily of Italy, another is at Su-Ao.

There are a couple of coldsprings in Taiwan.

北埔 and 树林冷泉。。。one in Hsinchu, the other is in New Taipei City.

both! because i'll be heading for both areas most likely.. so see where is good for the hot spring..

I went to the Beitou one but i heard Jiaoxi is much better. Some photos and review here. A couple to choose from, including the public free one but my friend wanted a less crowded one and one that isn't naked, so we decided on a mid range open air one.

Of course nothing beats Japan but with the high cost of stuff there and radiation...

Kenting is much better for water sports than hualien, but is a far way off... but you can do a lot there e.g. surfing, snorkeling etc
