 store check is free. after they tell u e cost u can choose to not do it. macplus is my vendor of choice outside of  store. helped me with my MacBooks a few times.
The CSO check is free, but despite knowing I'm there to replace the battery and they know the battery needs replacement, they pushed me for a $130 diagnostic and evaluation fee. Kinda BS... it's like I go to a workshop to change my car tyres and they tell me they are charging me for evaluation of all 4 tyres need to change.

Yes, just go direct to an Apple store and skip 3rd party vendors (even if they are authorised by Apple). All those 3rd party authorised vendors are just digging their own graves by levying such surcharges.
Thanks, point taken, I've previously had good experiences with A*Lab (iPhone cable frayed, new iPhone DOA) and QCD for other matters. This is the first time since iBook G4 as a Mac owner I gotta go through such crap from A*Lab, totally disappointed.

lol I had one time, A*lab made me queue 4 hours to just drop off my macbook.

8 days later from holiday, they gave it back untouched citing "no parts" and to come back 3 months later. I didnt know its that hard to check if there were parts before making someone queue for 4hours and hold onto their laptop for 8days.

Indeed, back in the days of QCD, Sh!t*Lab we were forced to, now the option is clear, I'll definitely go back to dealer direct. No more authorised repairers.

My appointment was 12, I waited until almost 12.20 to be served. I don't know why they give appointments yet unable to shorten the lapses in waiting.

I stepped into Apple Store, promptly asked if I have an appointment, guided me upstairs, and the person told me they have the parts and will commence repairs and ready in 5 days. That's kinda express service IMHO. Heck.. I send in my car to TEK and they can't even fix the issue promptly!

It was a truly great experience and hoping to share here since the members helped me out and I just want to share the progress of my issue.

Haha that’s why they are just authorised service provider and not apple.

Can share what happened?
tldr was qcd returned me my macbook after a repair without the bottom screws, and i only realised that after i got home. Called them up and they insisted it was my fault for removing the screws otherwise it was sent in without screws in the first place, and wanted to charge me parts and labour just to put back the screws. Escalated the issue to Apple Support and they gave me back a set of screws :s22:

come on la i want cheat you guys of a bunch of screws for fug :s13:

Jin gao wei like that. I used to take apart from Unibody MBP 13" to upgrade SSD and RAM often, but I always keep the screws aside, I really hate losing them. I should get a magnetic tray.

And yes, I agree. I sent in at 11.30am yesterday, and an email arrived in my mailbox at11.57am informing me the repairs are complete. Think I will drop by to pick it up later and head home. Gosh. That's fast.

When such things happen, the onus was on them to note it down on their service forms. Who will not note down 'base screws missing' when sent in? The audacity to make such a claim against the owner! Should wallop them.

My Alab case was also around same time when apple store opened. Apple automatically gave me a $200 voucher for anything on their web store and fixed my macbook 3 months later within a day.

Only "complaint" was that Apple didnt factory reset my macbook like requested. Thought that it was strange since most repairs would factory reset devices.

Seems like they don't deserved to be call authorised repairer.

I collected my mac back already. Enjoying the new battery now. But $288 poorer :(
