Asus RT-AX3000p or TP-Link Archer AX72?

It depends on your preference.

TP-Link Archer AX72: better HW spec (512MB RAM, one USB 3.0 port) and better wireless spec (better performance and coverage). It supports TP-Link OneMesh (mesh with some TP-Link range extenders) and EasyMesh (mesh with itself and some TP-Link routers).

More info about TP-Link Easy Mesh: it has some limitations compare to TP-Link Deco Mesh. But the good thing is that Archer AX72 now supports Ethernet backhaul.

Asus RT-AX3000P: weaker HW (256MB RAM, no USB port) and weaker wireless performance. Better FW feature and long term FW support from Asus. It can be a good AImesh node with other better Asus AX router. Personally I do not recommend using it as a main router because of 256MB RAM unless you only have a few devices.

More info about Asus AImesh: it is a good mesh system

If you do not care much about Asus AImesh, Asus FW features and long term support, go for TP-Link Archer AX72. If you care, then go for Asus RT-AX3000P.

If you do not have any router as of now, I will suggest you to go with TP-Link Archer AX72.

On the other hand, I will still recommend skip both and get the much better GT-AX6000 if your budget allows. M1 offer for GT-AX6000 is superb at $13.12/mth x 24 mth = S$314.88 (but you will not get the free Archer AX72 or RT-AX3000P).

Thank you so much for the tips! I am just a normal broadband user...more concern abt wifi coverage strength and performance...Will settle for TP Link then.

Have you got the TP Link?

How is the performance as compared to your previous router?

i would prefer using Asus routers due to their strong market presence in Singapore, and decent warranty service. moreover, Asus routers supports third party alternative firmware with a special emphasis on tweaks and fixes such as Asuswrt-Merlin

In this paticular case, RT-AX3000P has no Merlin support and I predict that it will never get Merlin support either, due to the lower amount of RAM (256MB) and no USB ports (same for RT-AX55).

I will recommend Asus router, but not RT-AX55/RT-AX3000P (or RT-AX53U) as main router, even they are good as mesh node. For M1 users, I will recommend GT-AX6000 (with Merlin support). For non-M1 users, I will recommend TUF-AX4200 (at around S$249, no Merlin support, but with OpenWRT snapshot support) or GT-AX6000.

Of course this is just my personal opinion, there are people who are happily using RT-AX55 or RT-AX3000P as the main router.

+++ Merlin support ++++

It is a pity that RT-AX56U support is dropped. It as the lower end Asus router I would recommend to act as a main router.

As for RT-AX58U, the version selling now in Singapore is RT-AX58U V2, which is not supported by Merlin. Then RT-AX68U is not really available in Singapore. So in the end, for WiFi 6 Asus routers, people have to go minimally to RT-AX86U (2nd hand units may be worth buying at S$200+) or RT-AX88U for Merlin support. I will recommend RT-AX86U Pro or GT-AX6000 now, if people really want Merlin support.

If not, I will recommend TUF-AX4200 instead (no Merlin support, but with OpenWRT snapshot support due to the use of MediaTek FiLogic 830 chipset).

I prefer ASUS too, it is very stable and very fast if you know what you are doing 🙂
My AX86U is heart touching, rock solid.
Yoo! I'm just a simple Wi-Fi router user. I don't tweak, use 3rd party firmware or build bridges or use Access Point.

Purely for simple and direct wired and wireless connection to all devices.
