Below S$400 not supposed to incur tax.

When i checkout with my cart, the cost of the items in total is $350. However, I saw that there was tax charges in my order summary and they charged me for it.

When i swapped to other items that are below S$400, there were no tax charges in the order summary? Is this a mistake?

I am not sure why this is happening, are they over declaring the prices of their item to pocket the tax money?

EDIT: Hi guys, i can confirmed they charged me wrongly for the tax. Because now when i add the same item back to cart. No more tax. I hope they admit their mistake and refund it to me. Seriously pissed off.

When i checkout with a particular item, order total below S$400, they charge me tax at final checkout. But i swap to other items that are below S$400, there are no tax. ???? Is this a mistake?

The S$400 includes estimated shipping.

newegg
sg items always got gst
us items CIF less then 400 no tax.

Suspect the item CIF value is above 400.

Duties and taxes are calculated based on the market value (actual price before any promotions) of the product and not the price after Newegg promotions. This allows destination country customs authorities to obtain the accurate import duties and taxes owed to them based on the actual value of the goods.

yusoffbo1 is correct, your item that is charged GST definitely has value of more than S$400 (the price that is striked out in newegg). Even if there is a promotion making the current price less than S$400, still have to pay GST based on normal price.

Whether you check out a 10 bucks item or 400 bucks item, Newegg charges you tax either ways. My take is that they just pay the local tax regardless to avoid having to determine when to charge GST in each country.

While I agree to this, but for the case of Newegg, they charge GST even if you are buying a 50 bucks item. I've tried this a few times, and in the end after GST and shipping the price is no longer attractive. Also recently I tried checking out a Noctua L12S, and also got hit with GST. So my assumption is they charge GST regardless of amount.

Good to know as I've yet to purchase anything from Newegg,... I use Amazon Prime so shipping is not chargeable.

I see some merits in using Newegg, when you can't find the product, or when it costs a lot more on Amazon. For example, some Noctua products cost a crazy amount on Amazon, while its reasonably priced on Newegg.

Okay, since many people discussing, i will share my knowledge.

As a rule of thumb, when shop from NewEgg you want to spend between S$280 and S$400.

Above S$280 will get you free shipping (Almost all item), total items lesser than S$400 no tax.

For Amazon, stuff like ram is S$17 shipping fee.

I've purchased multiple noctua fans from Newegg before and they did not charge me tax when payment was charged to card.

Good to know about the Noctua pricing. Everything I have purchased so far has been cheaper on Amazon but I'm sure there will be something at some point that I will need to source from Newegg. At least now I know what to expect,...
