Cos it is less intensive than badminton or table tennis. Hybrid of tennis and table tennis. Used to be mostly old people dominated but recently got a lot of youngsters playing already.

i think because it combines everything of all the other racket sports
1) small court (table tennis too small, tennis too big)
2) height of court (badminton net.. gives tall players advantage)
3) racket (size of racket , not too small like table tennis, not too big like tennis. portability)
4) multiplayer and good for all ages.

cons.
noisy to the poor folks living near the courts.

Tennis sound in condo is muffled coz the ball is like wooly ..and softer..
this one is a ping pong ball on steroids.

Looks like children's game played mostly by boomers. Back in secondary school days, my friends used a ping pong ball and a slim hardback to play similarly.

The ball moves slower and it can touch the ground.

In tennis, I can't even respond to the ball coming at me.

In badminton, I have trouble keeping the shuttlecock in the air.
