I recently bought a new WD Elements 1TB external hdd.

Problem occurs when i connect it to my USB 3.0 port, i will definitely lose my wifi connection and i can't even detect the wireless connections nearby. Wireless icon will be no signal with 1 red cross. Why so? Any advice?

However,
1. If i remove the hdd from the USB 3.0 port, my wifi connection is resumed.
2. If i access the hdd via a normal USB port (not the 3.0 one), my wifi connection is fine. And surprisingly, whenever i connect the hdd via the normal USB port, i seem to get better wireless signal. Usually i get only 3 bars but when the hdd is connected, i can get 4 bars. Verified this by removing and reading the hdd again and observed the wireless signal strength.

Fyi, i'm connected to wifi via wireless adapter plugged into another USB 3.0 port. I've also tested the hdd on another laptop with built-in wireless adapter, the wifi connection is ok.

Dunno, maybe your motherboard has limited USB bandwidth and cannot support both USB adapter and HDD together when both devices are connected to USB 3.0 ports. Can consider getting a PCI/PCI-E wireless card and enjoy better wireless connection due to the larger bandwidth on the PCI-E/PCI slots when compared to the USB port.
