Hey guys.

Feeling super paranoid at the moment.

Was driving along north bridge road and stopped at a red light. i picked up my phone for a while to check my email.

when i look to my left, there was a guy dressed in brown. He was wearing a camera and standing near bus stop. Should be trying to catch people going into bus lane. He was looking at me when I was holding my phone. But the light turned green and i put my phone down and drive off.

Question - is he LTA? or TP? Would he be able to fine me since im pretty sure his camera captured me using phone.

anyone got fine before for using phone in car?? whats the penalty for first time offense?
never gotten a fine in my life

Heresay from a driving instructor, "as long vehicle is stationary condition" can use mobile phone. Again, strongly recommend not to do that...:D:D

Car in motion, holding phone = offence, 12 points and charged in court.

Car stationary at traffic light, you may use your phone.

TP only deals with traffic violation and errant road behaviours.

Anything outside that, LTA deals with it such as invalid road tax, illegal mods, heavily tinted windows, and unapproved licence plate.

If it's a dude holding a camera at the bus stop, most likely catching motorists entering the bus lane.. Then again, you have to recall what time it was and whether it was indeed bus lane timing or full day bus lane.

Hope it helps.

Safe la , don't worry
Usually is the tp bike, LTA bike or police car catches u. Not those irritating cockroaches

Safe and correct are different matters. Might be safe cos that's not what the guy is catching, but it's not correct cos you can only use when stationary.

never gotten a fine in my life

Since the vehicle “stopped at a red light”, the offence of mobile driving could not be made out.

We revisit the offence of mobile driving and the elements required to bring about a successful charge.

beat red light this morning, do i still chance?

think traffic police mentioned b4 in ST.
Car stationary, can use hp cos deemed not distracting process of driving car.
Think t hey mean " driving car" = car moving :)

TP already clarify 3 years ago...

got 3 criterias to meet in order to constitute cellphone driving:

1) vehicle in motion
2) holding onto mobile communication device
3) using a function of the device

if do 2 out of 3, not considered an offence.

you can hold onto your phone while driving, not an office.
you can put your phone on the holder and scroll through instagram while driving, not an offence.
you can hold onto your phone and scroll through instagram while vehicle is stationary at the traffic light, not an offence.

but of course if you do the above, get distracted and cause an accident or near miss, they can fault you for careless/dangerous driving.
