My experience in Iceland is, I took out my phone to take a pic of the breathtakingly beautiful sunrise, but before I finished framing my photo, my phone died lol. So after I resuscitated my phone, I started holding it with a warmer in my hand when I need to use it outdoors. I was hoping somewhere people would sell a special phone case for winter conditions. I saw some online but reviews say they don't work.

For tourists, actually we do spend a lot of time outdoors in sub-zero lar. See scenery, reindeer rides through the forest, chase northern lights, that kind of thing.
Ya battery life is a big issue in the cold. Phones are easier to manage, just put it in your inner breast pocket to keep it warm, powerbanks also become useless if cold. The worst are camera batteries, my gopro auto shut down the moment I entered the water. Didn't get any footage at all.

Care to share how you do your layering for the Winter holiday season? What are the winter wear brands you go for and recommend and how much are you willing to spend for each winter holiday season?

For me, if I am heading for minus temperature, Ice breaker merino wool of 200 - 260 is a must followed by a fleece jacket and a good down (FP 800 - 1000) plus a hard shell

Share your winter shopping loots and footwear and socks too and the activities and places you go. For me Uniqlo don't seems to work.

Freezing in heat tech and now they launch the cashmere series but i have doubts abt it
Ski in japan bought all my gears from Decathlon. No horse run. Very good.

Layer 1: body long sleeve underwear. Bottom pants underwear
Layer 2: body fleece top
Layer 3: body ski jacket. Bottom ski pants

Head beanie
Hands gloves with fleece inner lining.

Super comfy and sweaty during ski.

I kena snowstorm in Iceland, I was staying at a farmstead, I drove the 150m from my cabin to the main building for dinner and the snow storm hit in the middle of dinner. I tried to drive back to my cabin after dinner, couldn't even make 20m. Totally whiteout with zero visibility. Had to ditch the car and slowly make our way back to the cabin. My kids were less than 10yr old then. I had to carry my girl because the snow was up to her waist at some area. The rented GLC 300 was totally buried under, luckily the farmstead has a tractor to pull it out from under the snow.

In SG, guys, where do you shop for your winter gear besides Decthalon and Uniqlo?
for me, just decathlon and uniqlo :s13:

i buy uniqlo for the puffy 10 degrees weather jacket and heattech, decathlon for the heavier waterproof outer layer jacket

for me, my core body can tahan cold, but my extremities cannot. that time i went sapporo see ice festival in my regular walking shoes + those rubber clip on spikes and thick wool socks, cannot sia. a bit of wind brrrr. My hands also, had that nylon thingy kind with that felt inner material did absolutely nothing. Had to wear snow boots and wool gloves.

oh sis

ehh its rike tis

for places with e.g. fireplace, thermo warming, restaurants that will provide hot air-cond, it will be hot until u want to take off jacket

once u are out there in the open, the temperature drop will be like your hand holding ice cubes

so HeatTech works really well, it can transition in and out, and the only cold part u will feel is your face and your hands

usually i do
1) HeatTech for top and bottom $29.90 + $19.90 approx for Extra Warm 5 - 15 degrees
2) Tshirt - from home $0
3) Long sleeve hoodie - from home $0
4) Decathlon jacket $30-40

Assuming u buying new HeatTech and Jacket

You must know the temperature range, don't wear Ultra Warm going to HK e.g.
Die sia :s11:

EDIT: Saw your qn above, use many times, in fact use lifetime, since macam one year few times wear HeatTech
unless u r the type do frequent business travel

i suffered in -10 deg weather cos not well layered...

then i asked experts who always fly overseas and they taught me how to wear... in the end look like dumpling but its much better than the -10 experience..

Top: Ultra Warm Heat Tech, Sweater, Seamless Down Parka
Bottom: Ultra Warm Heat Tech, Jeans or Warm Lined Pants..

all from Uniqlo... survived -5 to 5 deg with these...

Different pple got different cold tolerance... need to find your own comfort level..

And I find that just by using temperature is not a very good gauge to what to wear... I can survive -10c Hokkaido with just 3 layer... but in Seoul... same -10c I need 4 layers + gloves + scarf + gloves + beanie... I think is the dry cold wind chill that makes Seoul so much more brutal than in Hokkaido... Even breathing in the air hurts... But Hokkaido I am quite ok...

I prefer to do more layering... so I can remove easily when I go indoor... I am more tolerant to cold than heat...

Actually you also can't follow exactly what others wear.
Because people have different cold resistance.
Edmwers here should have more cold resistance, since supposedly many are bui bui :s13:
