Wireless is fine, as long as you have a stable router. If possible, use 5GHz band to minimise interference and set adapter channel width to toggle between 20mhz and higher widths to improve bandwidth with channel bonding. These may not be the driver/router defaults though... user has to figure out.
Imo dedicating a PCIe slot will likely give better performance consistency.
Personally using a TP-Link T6E AC1200 (broadcom chipset). Poor 5GHz range (2/5 bars just about 8M from router, good 2.4GHz range. On the other hand, laptop's Intel 7260 does 5/5 bar from the same distance.
The T6E retails for $55-60 IIRC but I got mine for $43 on Qoo10. Bandwidth is consistent but range is poor. Must set the right expectations when getting one of these.
