Back in 2015, I was helping a friend upgrade a Vostro notebook with a 802.11ac card and the thing was notoriously hard to crack open. Has the designed changed over the years since then?

I don't really have much love for notebooks that only have easy access doors for the RAM and HDD (and lock everything else behind a super hard-to-open chassis) because I often muck around with other things such as the M.2 slots.

As per darkshadows, the new Vostro follows the rest of Dell's line up of adopting a single removable back cover for servicing. They even their made their Surface Pro clone serviceable.

Comes with this.

Checking online for warranty validity is not enough right?

Do I really need the receipt if he cannot provide me one

I believe as long the the invoice includes your laptop's specific SN/service tag, that should be sufficient. Unless the business ordered a different spec warranty, it will be 3yrs onsite starting from the date on the invoice. $1.4k is fine (if can nego further, $1.3k) given that BNIB would probably be at least $2.1k.

The current Vostro line up is not worth for individual purchase imo. It's more of a boosted Inspiron with only 1yr ProSupport. If you decide to extend the warranty to 3yrs ProSupport, it comes close to or exceeds the Latitude 5490 price point - which in turn has better build quality.

And then when you look at 2nd hand market, you can occasionally find the flagship 74x0 series at lower price with much better build AND longer remaining warranty. Of course you won't find 8th gen, but for work use case, it doesn't matter.

Always good to have. I don't know how Lenovo Thinkpad onsite operates, my onsite Ideapad experience many years ago required to produce the invoice before they took it for servicing.

I can only speak for Dell where the (outsourced) onsite tech doesn't care as the phone team refers to the date stored online. Maybe other Thinkpad owners can share their experience

Agree Vostro are not worth.
My ex coy use them as "cheap" alternative than Latitude.
Previous models does have issues and build quality are not very good.
Can go for second hand Latitude.

Abit on the expensive side as it's made in the UK and you'll need to wait for postage. I'm using one myself. The interior is fleece lined and the closure is secured by velcro.

Deuter bag has some padding but no individual padded compartment.

I spend a few hours today to look at challenger and other shops

All either no padding too big or too small.

I carrry ipad file documents,y 2 power banks tissues wet wipes cables with me when I move around

The normal Lenovo laptop bag put inside my messenger bag eats up half of the space 😅

Postage is 1.5-3 weeks depending on Royal Mail, customs and singpost. It gets posted as a regular mail and will arrive in your letterbox, that's why it's only GBP2.99.

I use it in conjunction with my Deuter Gogo. I leave it in the back compartment of the bagpack, rarely use the sleeve on its own. I've felt no need to get the thicker padding Deuters like the Giga :o
