Sound is subjective... so... there isnt exactly any audio product that is the best in the world, bcoz the way how the user perceive music is unique to each individual.

however, on paper, one can negotiate with the results of how hardware and it's design could significantly impact on delivering quality sound. however, it may not suit every one's taste.

Sound is subjective but there is always a line and limit. As a musician( mainly a pianist, concert band , orchestra conductor, composer and arranger, oboist and tubist) I use headphone product from Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic because they offer one of the best sound and built quality in the world, no joke, what you hear with those headphone is what the true sound deliver. We as a musician would spend thousand of hours to practice just to get the right balance and you dont want to screw our music by using the wrong headphone and hear the wrong thing. Basically, those with musical education knows what is right, so this is my opinion, hope you can one day listen to accurate sounding headphone rather than wooly muddy stupid sound.

Can you give an example of the model(s) you stand by, as well as those you think are "wooly muddy stupid"?

The world's best headphone is the headphone that you love the bestest!

Everyone's taste and preference is different, thus there are so many out there to cater to each needs. Taste and preference will change as one age.

I think my Sennheiser PX100 more accurate than your AD1000PRM leh, haonan. Why you waste so much money when PX100 is all you need.

I agree that with many that it is a very subjective matter, some people would prefer accurate details, imaging position etc. some would prefer realism, timbre, layering etc.

In short, there's plenty of available products in the market for you to demo, with plenty of reviews (do take them with a pinch of salt) for you to take into account, there's not one absolute best headphone.

Personally, I really like Audeze LCD-2s, with their lush and full-bodied sound; however, I do admit that they have their issues such as the clamping force and weight. The Sennheiser HD650s are another good pair of headphones, with great sound and comfort. Admittedly, I'm less experienced with headphones, and it would be a whole new adventure when I step into buying a pair after my National Service.

P.S. I saw "iSennheiser" on VR selling a Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, I wonder if this is his/her base of comparison?

now it really got me thinking... IF... you know which can deliver "true sound"... you are most likely to target only MONITORING HEADPHONES, eg Sony MDR-CD900ST. you hardly have time for sennheiser or Beyer.. unless of course, you like their tuning for monitoring headphones more than the sony ones. :s13:

In my opinion, to my ears, to my musical tastes and amongst the ones I have heard - My list would be
1. Stax 009
2. AKG K1000

Sadly since #2 is OOP and rarely available even in 2nd hand markets, my choice would be clear with the Stax.

Affordability on the other hand is a different matter. Personally I can only dream of owning one.

PS - sadly I have never heard the Sony R1 or the Senn Orpheus.
