X99 mobo

Hi guys, im looking for a mobo to pair with a 6800k. Looking to oc it to maybe 4-4.2ghz, of course if can get slightly more its even better. Im thinking either of the following 3,
1) asus X99-a ii @ $530 before any discounts from lazada
2) msi x99a sli plus @ 300 used
3) asrock x99 taichi @ 400 from bizgram

Any recommendations? Does the power phases matter alot? Will the 8+4 power pin for cpu be required for my 6800k or isit more for those higher end 8 cores? If you have more mobos to recommend that is around this price range im more than happy to listen

You can also consider X99 gaming strix...


8+4 pins is not a die-die must have as long as your PSU can supply >30A in your 12V Rail. 8+4 connection is only for those Hardcore Quad-SLI GFX with a heavily overclocked Extreme processors.


I am doing well on a 1070 SLI with 6800K @ 4.3Ghz on a single 8 pins connection if that is what you want to know. (>12hr P95, IBT all passed and stable)

decided to go with the x99a sli plus since the seller agreed to let it go at 230sgd, for a 1 year old board, at almost half the price of the other 2 boards I was considering, i dont think performance wise it will be that bad right?

yeap its still under local warranty from corbell. seller sent for RMA and got a new board but already gotten new mobo

Careful with buying older mobo for newer chips. You want to make sure it's been flashed to the latest bios to be compatible with broadwell-e processors. Since you got the rma set, most likely it's factory reflashed, and you're good to go.

noted! if it hasnt been flashed then would it be possible to bring to the distributor to flash ar? if not i cant think of any other way unless I know someone who uses an older 2011v3 chip

Yup, distro can help.

But check your mobo flashing capability. Some of them don't even need to be booted normally - just stick in thumb drive with new flash, power to the mobo and press a dedicated button on mobo, done.

depends on what u want as well. but i still think noctuna d15 and cryorig r1 are the better ones. (no comment for the rest as i have not read up on those cooler b4 )

I guess I'll stick to my current h100i gtx and see if the d15 goes on sale during bf hopefully there are good deals for ddr4 rams too, the prices currently are soooo high

well the price increase steadily over the months, just that recently it hike up like a D*** move.

h100i and d15 are roughly in the same league, no point changing to d15 for performance gains, unless ur overclocking margins are so razor thin that that few imaginary degrees will help

I would go for the Taichi.
MSI even being cheaper, I wouldnt touch it. Too many issues with MSI recently.

Hahaha i already went for the MSI, just tried OCing it, doing some stress testing but it seems to be quite stable. For the 6800k, 4GHz @ 1.19V, is it normal or is this a good chip? Currently doing AIDA64 CPU and FPU stress tests and it seems like the power consumption is around 90-95W while the temps hover around 50-55C, max at 58C. Might try to bring the Vcore down further if possible

trudat. I'm pretty satisfied with the current 4ghz but might try pushing it this weekend and see what i can get While the clock speed should go higher, I'm trying to keep the voltage/power consumption down also haha
