HSS Freshie and just gotten my Y1 Sem 1 result.
GPA: 3.875 (round up to 3.88).
A little disappointed as I was aiming for >4.00 since I'm hoping to get second upper.
Is my result average or above/below average for a freshie?

Depends. What course are you from? If HSS it's definitely below average. Engineering it's just average, but you should be prepared for it to drop.

HAHAHA trust me, it is VERY HARD to pull up as the semester goes by. The first semester determines your degree essentially.

sobs i thought I did okay. Put too much time and effort on my GER CORE so I had lesser time to prepare for my COREs. Didn't know pass/fail mod doesn't affect my GPA :(

Dont be disheartened. You still have 7 more semesters. Throughout that 7 sems, you have to achieved at least minimally a high second upper in order to pull up to second upper. Maintaining it isnt easy tho.

nah, not the case. I would say it's only after 3 sems that you would have an indication of where your degree is going.

first sem people usually have too much fun in hall/cca, get back their poor results, and become ultra serious in second sem.

It's still possible to pull it up, you have to really focus and put in a lot of effort. But at the same time, remember to have a life and enjoy university and everything it has to offer. At the end of the day employers look at more than your GPA and your time in university is more than the kind of honours you graduate with.

It depends on schl. For spms cbc if you below 4.0 u r basically below average. However for eee if you are above 3.5 you are above average.
