Sad to hear that Taiwan not fully digitalized payment. I enjoyed YOUTRIP card quite a lot on my last Christmas trip in POLAND. I would say that 95% thru paywave/apple pay which I link my youtrip card to my iphone. Super convenient and save all the troubles. And I believe I need to carry cash with me on my coming trip to Taiwan this coming May.

You can use Line Pay or the metro card to make payment.

If you don't visit the night markets, you can don't carry cash with you. Some stores do accept Line Pay.

Unfortunately, I don't have Line pay. Visiting Taiwan night market is one of the highlights , I believe. Metro card means the easy card??

I tried using YouTrip to withdraw cash at an atm at the convenience store. I wasn’t successful but Trust card worked. Best to bring a different card , Visa and Mastercard overseas. They charge a service fee too. Can’t remember how much.

best go to Megabank (兆豐銀行)
or Cathay United (國泰世華) , usually can be found inside Hi-life convenience store, and mrt stations

the rest of the banks charge 100 ntd
