Final update:

Connectivity has been restored for all exchanges - engineers are monitoring the network closely.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this incident. As mentioned we will be investigating what happened and put in measures to ensure it cannot happen again.

If next saturday i were to take 2 network cables and connect on my zhone router like this:
Port 1 patch to port 4
Port 2 to port 3

Will the internet go down for singapore again?

I think ppl here are not saying that there won't be downtimes with other ISPs.There will be outages with others but they will not be paying premium $$$ for it at least.

You guys should stop tagging premium with VQ. There's nothing premium here except the price.
They are the just another typical "you poke they move" company. I would rather pay M1 $29/mth and get ****, than $65/month in VQ AND STILL GET ****.

I am still seeing people from other threads saying they want to jump over here cos of the good service and uptime etc. from VQ. :s22: They don't know what they are in for man.

This is MY EXPERIENCE as an existing VQ customer.

Agree...I had both SH and VQ.VQ was much better that time so i disconnected my SH. VQ's service has gone down steeply from then with frequent outages. SH did have outages but not this frequent.

I think VQ invested our premium $$ more on their sales and marketing to get more customers than on their infra (as advertised) to make it stable and scalable. One customer bringing down entire network including their mgmt. interfaces is laughable. This clearly shows where the money has been going.

Wow, is that what cause the outage last night?
Sorry , I'm a network noob. :s13:

Bro, I think ALOT of those who jump ship 2-3 yrs ago will agree to that statement.
I was with Stinktel from 56K - Magix - Cable - Fibre. The amount of downtime certainly was WAY lesser compare to the 2years I'm with VQ.

If you guys really want a small list of all the downtimes and problems VQ has had. Just search for the phrase "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience". It's the standard cut and paste answer for the user id viewqwest.

Of course this list is not exhaustive as he might have used different phrases through out the years, and you might also need to include the other messages posted by the other VQ account holders like NicBlais, JeNoVa-IcHiGo, fibernet, AntonS, and posts by andr3wyong when he was still with VQ.

You can also refer to this post by tinkerbot where he compiled a list of all downtimes from November 2014 to June 2015, but JeNoVa-IcHiGo replied

So I guess THIS event WOULD COUNT as an outage by VQ's definition since it doesn't seem that much localized like the AMK exchange. "LOL sorry, that one no count because didn't happen for everyone ah"

Poor tinkerbot was then flamed by various fanatic VQ fanboys like Qubicfactor, shadow84, Lordzephyr9, RenZero and even by VQ's once andr3wyong himself.

Lol, since when im considered as VQ fanboy? I only post here when there is problem with my internet. And i jumped from MR to VQ 1 yr ago due to good support shown in thread. But service has dropped since the day i joined.

i really miss my good old VQ days, nowadays, I feel VQ network is not very stable, often there will be a reboot of my ONT (I use a network monitoring system to monitor my WAN ip uptime.) Or my onevoice will be down for no reason. Either issue already gives me a bad experience with VQ.

Ah, I guess you did not bother to click thru to the link I've posted. Have you decided to leave VQ for ST yourself as you suggested to tinkerbot?

How about the follow ups from me here and you here?

I left ST for MR and then to VQ. So what makes u think im going back to ST? You and your assumptions.

And i was only commenting on tinkerbot post since he seems to favor ST a lot. But nothing mentions that im joining ST.

Didn't quite expect a user to cause a network downtime...

But I have to say, as a VQ customer for 3 years, VQ's standards have gone down. I think it will be good if VQ continues to focus on your core instead of fighting it out with the others...

I in fact did need the internet today and so did my wife...we just used our phones instead.

Again, it's regrettable that this event occurred, but we make it out to seem like it's bigger than it really is.

And the internet always goes down at the worst possible time, that's for damn sure.

Oh sure, I wished I could've just whipped out my phone to tether out Internet to resume my 800kB/s (2.88GB/h) stream because my home internet was ousted by a single bloody customer who is able to takedown an entire boutique-premium-jin-satki-$65/month-ISP - whose support hotline also goes down because it's hosted on their boutique-premium-jin-satki-$218/month-broadband

LOL.

VQ better come out with a recovery plan soon esp for those paying 65 a mth. If not I can imagine a lot of people will be writing into IDA

Are you pinoy????

No I'm not u moron. But my grandparents came from China once upon a time. My father came from msia. But I converted to Singaoorean cause I was born and raised here.

I did my NS. I love my country. But I hate idiots like u that find excuses like race to shift all the blame to.

U mean there are no Singaporeans with bad service? At least pinoys are polite even if they can't help u. We could learn a thing or two about tolerating idiotic customers such as yourself from them.

Anyway admins should really ban this idiot. Hwz endorses racism?

VQ is going the route of SMRT what. SMRT train break down still profit. Fine, but still many billions per quarter. SMRT focus on retail instead of core train services.

VQ focus also on retail by setting up e-Store to sell things only maybe 3% of their customer base need.

VQ also focus on expanding their TV services and TV Box services that really most of us don't even use.

VQ also focus on buying gimmicks like that F1 car replica and hiring pretty models to make people want to join.

Then also make sure to add extra premium to the pricing wise so that their customers will have the extra premium feels so that when long time subscribers like us from the Raptor 100 days complain that service is going down, you have people under cognitive bias who will come out and defend them for free.

Example quotes they will use:
"I pay high premium price for premium feels, and the downtime didn't affect me much."
"You mean other ISP won't have downtime also meh?"
"One downtime only lah. The other previous 5 didn't affect me, so still counts as one"

Competition so keen these days, if VQ don't invest in their TV Box nonsense, and tag on their VPN services advertised for "Free" and that will "auto cancel once free period over" but the recurring bill just keeps coming till you call in to "verify", how do you think they can make money?

Just looked at their website, think needs some updating lah. Updates in bold.

15 Years in Business
24 hours Support Except during Network Outage, then it means you have to wait 24 hours for support as Hotline is based on IP and not dedicated landline like most non joke businesses.
100 % Innovation Unless some other company advertise something like 10Gbps, then we will update also lo. But our front page ad will still be the news from 2 years ago stating we are first to offer 2Gbps outside japan
99 % Uptime Uptime here only takes into account whole Singapore level downtime, if only a few exchanges down, sorry la, not counted

I wonder if Mark Yeo can still "speak to a person "live" within 3 rings "
