Did u see the steps posted by another user at lowyat forum? This is what was posted in case u missed it...

You can't OTA because the recovery is not Nubia stock. I believe the recovery is CWM.

Therefore, we need to sacrifice the CWM. Download the full 1.41 Zip ROM (724MB) from Nubia.cn and flash via settings > About phones > System update > SD card.

Once rooted, u can install back the CWM. Google to perform this...

Yes but GAPPs will not work anymore. So, hv to install GMSToolkit to replace old GAPPs.

But i don't need or won't install CWM/TWRP anymore because the stock ROM from nubia.cn will constantly appearing once a month. Hence, leave the stock Nubia recovery alone is my preference.

Whenever there is a brand new stock ROM available, we just need to:
1) Full unroot via SuperSU.
2) Reboot.
3) Download stock ZIP file (about 700MB) into internal storage
4) Flash via SD card method.
5) Reboot.
6) Root using Towelroot.
7) GMSToolkit to install GAPPs.

This will not disturb existing Apps and database. Hence, no restore from Titanium Backup is required.

I did the same for my second Z7Max, using the 700plus mb file too, flashed with CWM. The google play stops a few times but i re-flashed the google pack and sign in again, it works okay for the past 2 days without wipe off the data....so Rooted, Google Play installed, update 1.41 should be fine....but again proceed at your own risk.

I think I missed this post, but I did check my Root Status using Kingroot, then copy the downloaded 1.41 version ZIP to my phone memory, flash using CWM, reboot, tot it crashed again cuz Google Playstore keep stopping, then perform root again using King Root, re-flashed GAPPS, then works again. All data still intact. I think quite similar to what he did?

Can i check with u, which ROM did your Z7 phones come with? The stock 1.29 with google services installed or the multi-lang 9.29 with google services installed?

Hi TheWiseOne,

I'm having a little trouble finding an updated clean, "direct from source" GMStoolkit for GAPPs.
I found
https://disk.yandex.com/public/?hash=Z42mII0UZ1ZmmgZrNYHeo6efevsWnRMyewVLpxa9CbY=

but no info about who wrote this. A little paranoid incase it has rouge applications inside.

Can kindly share where I can find out more about this?

Will I be able to install GAPPs without having to use a custom recovery (CWM/TWRP) on a brand new phone (only rooted using towelroot).

On the same note, does GMStoolkit package allow for minimal installation of critical google apps, and let us download the rest ourselves? something like PA GAPPs

Hi thewiseone, actually I am very very new to rooting and flashing, all I did was received from factory packed box, (with 1.29), then over the air upgrade to 1.38, then flashed CWM and GAPPS, then perform what sairio did, and get my 1.41 now. I am not too sure if my google service was multi-lang 9.29. from setting I see that my Build Version is 4.9.13. Is this what you asking?

I'm afraid i wouldnt be of much help either. I'm also a noob when it comes to rooting and flashing gapps. Apparently, there appears to be various versions of gapps installer. To play safe, u will need to look for a signature verified copy which probably can be found on xda forums. Try doing a search over there.

The version no. can be found under About Phone, Build Number. Most Z7 Max phones should come with V1.29 for the Build No. However, there are some equipped with multi-language ROM like mine and its V9.29 instead. The domestic stock ROM only supports English and Chinese.

Just took delivery of another dual 4G SIM, dual standby (dual active?!!.. i will have to verify that later) phone. Looks like the Koreans have finally joined the game with their flagship model. As they say, better late than never! =:p

I see, mine was domestic ROM, hence was 1.29, then 1.38 then 1.41. cheers

Anyway.. its dual standby.
try to mimic dual active by using call forwarding.

Sorry to OT a little... is it a DUAL ACTIVE SIM phone??? While on the call with SIM1, can the 2nd call take place on SIM2?

BTW, why do u need to have more than 1 dual SIM phone? =:p

U have answered my question even before i've posted! :D

How does the call forwarding work? Instead of getting an engaged tone, it forwards the 2nd caller to ??? :s22:

travel quite a fair bit :)

Lets say you talking on line 1.
Line 2 is off. If anyone call Line 2, the call will be forwarded to Line 1, and you get an incoming call on Line 1.

At least that's how I think its supposed to work. I don't have it on.

It has the widest no. of FDD-LTE bands for any dual-sim phone I know of.
And has Google play apps right out of the box.
flagship phone somemore.

4G FDD LTE
B5 (850), B2 (1900), B7 (2600), B8 (900), B20 (800), B3 (1800), B1 (2100)

Z7 is good as it can get both China Mobile and China Unicom 4G bands, quite rare for andriod phones. Even for chinese market phones.
It also has FDD (although limited) bands. Good for S'pore M'sia Thailand hongkong (which I go most often)

Thanks for sharing the info on the call forwarding feature. I guess though it may not be a true dual active SIM phone, it beats getting a missed call for some.

The S5 Duos does have an impressive list of supported FDD-LTE bands. As long as u are not travelling to China, i think it can be used almost anywhere with 4G telcos.

Having used both phones, which do u prefer? After getting used to a 5.5" screen, i find the 5.1" a little under size. In addition, i absolutely detest that physical home button on the S5 duos. :s8:

This is about the only thing i dislike about the Z7 Max. If it came with Google services pre-installed, we wouldnt have to deal with such hassles. When a new ROM is released, it will be another fingers crossed upgrade. :(

BTW, where did u read about the S5 Duos call forwarding feature? How can we determine if a call forwarding function was used instead?

As much as i hate to admit, the S5 Duo's touch screen is better. Its more sensitive and easier to navigate. The Samsung keyboard is also pretty decent.

Any source to get protective casing for Z7 mini guys?
I got mine from ebay.

Hmm, if I'm on stock rom and have gapps installed, will I face the same problem? OTA should work right?

No guarantees!!! As your phone has been rooted and gapps installed, OTA may not work properly even if u unroot your phone. In your case, follow the procedure mentioned above in post #402 .

1) Unroot
2) Download the FULL IMAGE file from Nubia website (700+ MB)
3) Apply update via SD card
.
.
.
