Anyone got problem with the volume / loudness after updating the box to 8.0?
All my apps now become very soft.

As Mr Choo mentioned before, supposedly the Oreo updates have been pulled by Xiaomi. So did your system prompt for you to update?

Ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/9r993j/cant_update_mi_box_3/

https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/9oedf2/oreo_update_not_showing_on_mibox/

The above two links say Oreo updates have been pulled.

All kind of bad comments to Xiaomi with regard to Oreo update. Some say factory reset will fix majority of the problems. Have you tried that?

yea the oreo OTA update was withdrawn but Xiaomi released the OTA update again with the new latest updated firmware a couple of weeks back.

Mi Box 4 is not Mi Box S.
Mi Box 3 is not Mi Box.

Only Mi Box and Mi Box S (Global Version ) are using official Android TV OS certified by Google and has official Android TV version of Play Store.

Mi Box 3, 3c, 3 Enhanced, 4, 4c are for mainland China market and they do not have Play Store and no certified DRM to run Netflix HD even if you manage to install mobile phone version of Google Play service/Play Store. They also have quite some advertising which you need to root the box to get rid of. Do not buy them for use here. Actually by Chinese law, they may be required to update FW to get rid the unauthorised apps (but probably not really enforced strictly).

Same goes to Mi TV. Worse is that there is no way to root as of now and no easy way to install Google Play service on Mi TV.

Just surprised by the Lazada seller who advertised Mi box s, keeps saying his product is "top box 3" (I assume he means mi box 3). I messaged him privately and he said the same thing.

That is the confusing part. Better ask him the exact model number, supposedly Mi Box global version is MDZ-16-AB and Mi Box S is MDZ-22-AB.

So today I've bought myself the mibox global version mdz 16ab model dat comes with UStype 2 pin plug. Issit safe to use with an adapter on the wall electrical point? I compare the plug with other safety mark plugs here n saw that there's a bit difference in the amp n voltage. Just want to know before i plug it in. Thnks

I'm using the US 2pin plug directly plugged into my power strip.. it's written on the plug that it accepts 110-220v.. means no transformer required

I sideloaded TVB Anywhere APK onto Mi Box, and was able to run it. However when I tried to play any video it will return an error.

It is designed to run on mobile device only.
Much appreciate any advice on how I could get it working on Mi Box

https://www.tvbanywhere.com.sg/faq.html

It mentions that TVB Anywhere does not support TV boxes. Looks like they detect the underlying OS and block (official) Android TV OS.

tbh the mibox is working pretty fine for me... if you really have the cash to burn or the need for a shield tv, go for it.. otherwise a mibox will most probably be perfectly sufficient... no comments on the apply tv...

it's two different o/s and device.. and popularity in terms of price and value, the apple tv just isn't worth it. at least in SG context.

media server/streaming box is a seperate issue from digital tv tuner/antenna.
