Option 2 gets the best of both worlds - you have storage, and you speed.
In order for that to occur, you will have to install windows on the ssd. Else it will still result in the problems mentioned.
Another thing to note would be the os installation / cloning process.
You can either clone it from your hdd to your ssd
- which has the following prerequisites:
Hdd used space to be <= ssd space.
This means you would have to xfer files else where until you meet the required conditions started.
alternatively, you can do a clean os installation which requires a license.

Sorry to dig out this thread. As i had a HP Pavilion Laptop model no. is 15-au103tx i5-7200 facing same problem, very slow startup. As i not sure which optional is more better?
1) Upgrade the 1T HDD to Ssd 240GB $65
2) Remove the CD rom drive to add a SSD Tray $25. Add SSD 120GB $45 as a secondary HDD and remain my 1T hdd.
