Those around CBD have no free parking. Probably can look around South Yarra

the airbnb apartment i found got free packing. just opposite docklands.

anyway if really want free parking, airbnb accommodation is the way to go. cos most hotels dun have free parking.

Regarding parking in Melbourne, how do we know where to park for free? I plan to go to Footscray for Vietnamese food

Read the signs, if there's no 'ticket' means free for a period.

Look at the roadside signboard, there is 1/4P, 1/2P, 1P. 2P, 3P. then there is a timing below it. if the timing is outside of those written on the signboard, then it's free.

Hello guys, I just got back from my trip. Had a good experience with Hertz and would recommend them based on my Melbourne rental. Rented a Nissan Qashqai and the car came in great condition (although the wait was abit longer as the car was in the wash bay when we arrived 40mins ahead of schedule).

Got the zero excess at AUD29.09/day and it was fuss free.

Just curious what you total expenditure was for the rental of the Qashqai, and for how many days was it?

Really zero excess? I saw and tried to booked but the rate was pretty expensive after adding in everything.

Hi there,

Would like to check on car excess covers. Tenet insurance covers for rental excess is SGD1000. Avis rental in Brisbane excess is AUD3017. Question is,if we do not opt for the zero excess, if anything happens we have to fork out 2k +- from own pocket correct?

Thanks

has anyone bought external excess insurance instead of from the car hire company itself? i was looking at carhireinsurance website and it's a lot cheaper. there are some good reviews however most people never had to make a claim yet.

same here! I'm also keen to know.. saw an external one from allianz... AUD$152 for 1wk

Anyone rented from http://www.drivemycar.com.au/ before? It's something like airbnb - rent from owners. It's so much cheaper than car rental companies.

Interesting concept. I guess it was a matter of time before such schemes came to the rental car industry.
I would personally feel a little uneasy, that's all. In case of issues, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get help (e.g. replacement car, or repair, etc).
IMO, the savings would have to be large enough to justify this option.

yeah.. so asking around to see if anyone has rented before.. :)

the excess is at 2k aud, and I saw a 7-seater car (this one http://www.drivemycar.com.au/cars/kia-rondo-lx-un-ferndale/9301) for $22Aud per day! 200km driving per day as well.. so for a 8 days rental, it's only $180 aud.. compare it to Hertz (Kia Carnival) with 4k excess at $720aud after krisflyer discount...

no doubt the car is older... but well.. i'm still torn between both options... :s22:

That applies even if it's not your fault. They take the money first, then work it out later.

I wouldn't do it myself. I mean, nobody would let strangers drive their new BMW, so any car choices you get would be, well, less than optimal. Private vehicles may also be poorly maintained, have services skipped, etc. Sometimes you might get lucky, sometimes you might not. I guess it's also the same with major rental car companies, although I haven't had any disasters despite renting about 5 - 10 vehicles per year from airport locations. *touch wood*

And I suppose I would feel bad if I scratch someone's car, but it's rather guilt-free scratching a rental from a big company (it's just business).

EDIT: I just did a check, and they do have new BMWs there... although very costly.

If you're talking about a difference between <$200 and $700+, then yes it is certainly a big enough amount and I can see why you're seriously considering it.

I just checked that Apex Car Rental (which you have had positive experience with) does the Hyundai iMax for about $70/day w $500 excess, so 9 days rental is $560. Hmmm still significantly higher than what you've searched.

perth doesnt have apex... :( else i would have gone with them... and only have to go with major car rental companies if i need the car at the airport. so it's all expensive..

anyway, drivemycar cars have to be picked up at the location where they advertised it to be, so airport is out as well.. thus i am not looking into that already.
