Hi guys I made an impromptu trip to Japan next week at the very last minute. Hence I have no time to research on the trip and I'm so busy I can't even get time to check slowly what to do there.

The aim of my trip is to celebrate my 2nd year wedding anniversary and also to explore Tokyo solely. Will not be going to any other states.

Don't want to do too much tourist itinerary. I have some questions.

1) I hear taxis are really costly. How do you guys go from airport to your hotels? What's the cost?
2) If i were to really take a cab, how much would it cost? From Shibuya to Narita airport.
3) Do I need a JRPass if I am going around Tokyo? Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi, Akihabara.
4) Any MUST go places I shouldn't miss?

I know I must not be spoonfed but i really don't have time to check on existing threads. Hope you guys are kind enough to share these info with me .:(:(

Hi, i myself have never been to Tokyo before and will be going next month. I suppose you will be landing at Narita and staying at Shibuya?
Taking the cab will be really expensive after reading up. I think the best option will be taking NEX train - http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_nex.html

Best to ask your better half to chip in in the planning if you are stretched of time. Especially places of interest.

Always take trains as much as you can, but if you prefer taxi:
http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main....9999996&toCoord=35.7719867,140.39285010000003

narita to shibuya if taking trains
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/s...h_target=route&facility=reserved&sum_target=7

No need JR pass if you just want to tour Tokyo metropolitan.

Ask you wife to take a look here:

u may want to take a look at trip reports here:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/japan-271/compilation-trip-reports-3158981.html
I have labelled the reports on the places visited, so just look for those that are for Tokyo. if no time to plan, just look through the trip reports and shortlist the places u want to go, then check hyperdia to find out how to get there:
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/

if u can come up with a list of places to go, it will be easier for us to help u organise ur itinerary and give advices

1) taxi is super expensive. just take train
2) more than SGD200
3) nope, u dun need JR pass
4) really depends on personal preference, so go look at japan-guide or the trip reports to get some ideas. I can list down the popular places that ppl usually cover, but it doesn't mean they are must-go places:
Shinjuku, shibuya, harajuku, akihabara, ueno, asakusa + skytree, Ginza, odaiba, tsukiji market, Tokyo tower

JR pass not needed, just get pasmo or suica.
It works like our ezlink, just topup and use.
Insufficient fund just topup.
Will save ur time from finding the correct ticket price and queuing to buy ticket or topup when u decided to exit at higher fare destination.

think it would b a better plan if u book a hotel that has direct airport bus limousine service. Save u the trouble of running around train station with afew luggages n boxes of goodies.

Very cheap only

Hehe. Google maps actually not too bad in giving you multiple ways to travel. One possibility: Keisei Skyliner http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/directions/shibuya.php

4) Any MUST go places I shouldn't miss?
No such thing as must go places. To a theme park fan, disneysea/disneyland would be a must go, but to someone who hates theme parks he/she would be like wtf no way. Since we dunno you and dunno your preferences, no point giving suggestions. Better you read yourself here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html - if you not free then ask your wife to read and plan at least first 1-2 days then you can play it by ear when in Tokyo.

4) Any MUST go places I shouldn't miss?

1. Take the limousine bus to the nearest stop to your hotel. https://www.limousinebus.co.jp/en/

2. Forget about taxis in to and from the airports.

3. No JRPass if you are just staying within Tokyo. Suggest to pay as you use since you could be taking the subway at times. Most people use the JR Yamanote Line which runs as a circle around Tokyo or the Chuo Line as it cuts across the Yamanote Line. http://www.japanvisitor.com/japan-travel/yamanote-line

4. Must places to go really depends on your schedule. If time is limited, I am not sure if wasting time queuing for rides in Disneyland is a good way to spend it. Maybe you can share with us where you will be staying and how much time you will be spending there first before we can provide better ideas.

1) I hear taxis are really costly. How do you guys go from airport to your hotels? What's the cost?
>> take limo bus or train. Bus-About 3k for narita and 1k for haneda. Train much cheaper but longer ride and uncomfortable seats and have to hang on to luggage.
2) If i were to really take a cab, how much would it cost? From Shibuya to Narita airport.
>> easily USD300. No point even if 4 people share..
3) Do I need a JRPass if I am going around Tokyo? Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi, Akihabara.
>> buy the ÂĄ750 JR one day pass. The fares start from 150 or 160 so your break even is up to 5 (less if you travel longer distance)
4) Any MUST go places I shouldn't miss?
>>depends on what u like. Now is Sakura full bloom. Definitely Ueno or Yoyogi park.

Yeah some sort but dun worry abt me it wasn't japan thou:D

But given the complexity and the scale of Tokyo, any trip there shouldn't be just hit and run and kill the experience, there's much more to be properly sought.

1. From airport to city area. Cheapest option is Keisei Main Line, the slow train option. Its about 45min compared to the skyliner 30min. Cost is around 1060 Yen...to take you to UENO.

2. Generally UENO is one of the cheapest area in Tokyo. There are many cheap hotels at UENO area, which is near the train station, such as Sutton Place, ueno touganeya. They are around 10000 yen per night or lesser, depending on when you travel.

3. There's lots of cheap (and good) eats around UENO area and shopping around the area is cheap compare to the more upmarket areas (Shinjuku, Shibuya etc).

4. To travel within the city, just use the subway
