If you don't anti virus install, time to install one e.g. Avast or AVG. If you already have one that is already expired, it's either you renew it or remove it and install a new one. Never install 2 anti virus on a same PC. It will cause conflict.

Just downloaded the trial version of bitdefender plus and received a link for the promotion; 50% discount for 3pc/year, works out close to US$30.

But I read that the free edition is dead..... no updates and does not work correctly in windows 10......

You're right. Officially, only Windows XP SP3 32-bit, Windows Vista (SP2), Microsoft Windows 7 (SP1), Microsoft Windows 8 are supported as listed under System Requirements.

Windows 10 is not officially supported.

None, anti virus are over rated. McAfee is a malware itself, uninstalled and never looked back.
