been thinking of going to both Shirakawa (mainland Japan) & hokkaido -Kushiro (far west) coming Dec.

was wondering if I should take train all the way between Shirakawa - Kushiro or combine train and flight.

tentatively my plan is to take flight from Singapore - Tokyo - Kushiro.
then train from Kushiro - Furano - Hakodate.
Bullet train from Hakodate - Kanazawa .

my concern is that i will spend too much time commuting in train.

any suggestion is welcome.

pro tip:

quieter but might be a bit seedier parts of the yamanote line is always good

I personally like Ueno area better.
Ueno got my vote I always stay there due to keisei skyliner to narita
I had stayed at a small business hotel Ueno Terminal Hotel 2 weeks ago. Same agree the convenience of the Keisei skyliner is a saviour, can reach Narita airport in 40mins at 2470yen.

What is the cheapest/most convenient way to get from Narita to Tokyo city area?
Narita Express or Keisei skyliner or limousine bus?

i will not be purchasing JR pass for this trip but considering the use of Tokyo subway pass (3-days) instead to explore Tokyo.

Narita Ex if you buy the return ticket (cheapest and faster)

Pay 500Yen more for Limo Bus, but able to directly take you to the listed hotels.

Yes for JAL international->domestic transfers, you'll need to check-out your baggage from Haneda international and transfer to one of the 2 domestic terminals.

The good thing if you're taking JAL/ANA is their domestic check-in counters are located right outside the baggage claim belts within the international terminal - it'll save you the time and hassle of lugging your luggage to the domestic terminal. The free shuttle bus waiting area is also just one escalator away from the domestic check-in counters.

For your return journey from Osaka to Singapore however, your checked-in luggage should be all the way through to Singapore i.e. this time you don't have to check-out baggage and re-check-in again at Haneda domestic terminal.

From my experience, this applies to all JAL domestic->international transfers. I always wonder why it's like this.
