But the most important point is that in this working society, people procrastinate. No one will be sitting there 8 hrs a day to deal with applications only. Most likely have some coffee breaks in between or chit chat or do other stuff while dealing with the mountains of applications.=:p

HAHA this part damn funny.

Can you imagine the admission office staff drinking coffee and chit chatting while the people here so anxiously waiting. :s13:

Somehow the foreigners who feel the system is unfair,

Always fail to mention that Singaporeans have to do 2 years NS before they can enter university

While these foreign punks expect to come straight in.

If you aren't a bigot yourself, and care so much about fairness,

Please do volunteer to serve 2 years of National Service

We will be more than happy to give you equal treatment and equal chacne at universities.

The non-quantifiable components like CCA, awards, other achievements are only for those who apply through/with non-academic achievements which has a separate 10% quota.

The overwhelming majority of applicants is just based on their university admission score - Rank points for JC students, 80% GPA + 20% O's for poly students. This part should be simple sorting.

Doesn't matter got 1000 or 10000 applicants.. computer can easily organize it almost instantly what.

but yes, my point was it's not as simple as we think. just curious what is going on behind the scenes that is responsible for the delay. In case you missed my other post:

It's better to have a 3.89 GPA that has outstanding CCA achievement compared to a 3.95 with no CCA. Or a guy that's 3.85 with outstanding CCA, work experience etc will always be better compared to a 4 pointer mugger.

Because that 4 pointer achieved it by simply studying without having other commitment and stuff.

Bottom line is..If you can't get in, ask yourself why didn't you study harder. Get more awards, get some impressive CCA list. Don't blame others for your issue. Most of my foreigner friends gotten their letter early Dec. Perfect GPA, perfect CCA records..

Not really, unless you're from Malaysia (like me) you would DIE to get a Singapore citizenship... We LOVE your country man. :s12:

Feel free to volunteer to serve NS here?

Your words are cheap. So many of my Malaysian friends here, upon receiving a scholarship and trying to make a life here,

Are holding on to their malaysian passports dearly. They will never convert to pink IC, always dreaming about when they can go back home to enjoy life.

It is right for Singapore to look out for her own people first. That doesn't negate the fact that it is unfair though.

Just because you benefit from a system of unfairness doesn't mean you should be ignorant to other people's woes. Don't discredit the feelings of non-citizens when the chance of a 70rp Singaporean getting into a course is higher than a 75rp Foreigner getting into the same course. You damn well know it's not fair.

Just because it's unfair doesn't mean we're going to cry in front of the Unis and beg them to change the admission system. We can't do anything about it anyway. But don't turn a blind eye and say it's fair. Recognise that you are more privileged than I am, a PR, because I myself recognise that I am more privileged than a foreigner.

Honestly I much rather hear you all condescendingly say "sucks to be you then" than hear you ignorantly say that it's "not unfair"

If i said anything hurtful then I apologize that's not my intention. Like what i said, I'm very fortunate to be in Singapore. I'm really grateful that my family was welcomed here and that we now have access to better education, job, health care and much more.

So with your logic you're saying it's only fair for our local universities to admit Singaporeans, PRs, and foreigners equally based on results when these are public institutions? Is that fair for Singaporeans then?

The foreigner friend with perfect GPA was offered citizenship but told there's a need to serve 2years. He think it's a waste of time. Apply for PR instead. Completing uni now, ICA offer him citizenship with the condition that he doesn't need to serve that 2 years. Ridiculous.

Hello friends, I just logged in to the NUS portal and they said "Your application has been processed" however, I tried to log in to the 'accept offer' portal but I was denied access. Does that mean I was rejected by NUS? :s11:

The answer to your problem is very simple, that is to take up citizenship? I believe that is what the government wants.

What is a privilege and what is not is in the eye of the beholder. I am willing to bet that there are those who think that your PR is a HUGE privilege and there is something not quite fair about it towards citizens.

Not to mention that in local uni, a percentage has already been allocated for foreign students, while the remaining slots have to be further split for jc and poly students, with poly standing at only 10%.
