Mid point means 7th Stn? My wife team is staying at 8.5th, so its a long way up. The bus will reach 5th at around 10:10, a bit of acclimatization and preparation time may take 1hr(my guess). So only around 11am then they start the climb. Some information said from 5th to summit takes 6hrs. But my wife team is estimating 6hrs just to reach their hut at 8.5th. So i think its a nice time to rest for the day and take in the view before sun set at 7.03pm

Is staying at 8.5 station the best? So that you will beat the crowds staying below you to the sunrise? I am little afraid of the lack of oxygen so high up though. Will breathing be very difficult, like diving?

Fujinomiya Trail seems the shortest.
Which trail would be recommended for first timers?

They will go with the popular Yoshida trail. Yoshida trails has lots of huts and toilets/rest stops, so it should be more suitable for first timers.

They will stay in the hut call Koraikoukan.

At high altitude oxygen is thinner for sure, but that's part and parcel with any mountain hiking.

You should try to reach the 8th station. Depending on your route you use for descent and the group you travel with, they may let u store your backpack there. Next morning, just go up the summit with your essentials and pick up your backpack on the way down.

No fate with this place on 25th July. Fully booked apparently as seen on their calendar website.

Afraid that if I stay lower, I have to climb more in the dark.

So I'm left with fujinomiya trail, apparently 2nd most popular and highest starting or shortest trail.

I requested my reservation date for the peak mountain hut.

http://fujisanchou.com/guide-for-english/

Seems like its 1 shot climb to the peak and stay there then wake up chope seat to see the sunrise.

Cost 7500 yen

Since my first time and climbing alone, hopefully I don't die. Going to buy like 2-3 cans of oxygen at the station 5. :s12:

hehe, dont over do it, bro/sis, Mt Fuji will always be there waiting for u to conquer it the next time.

My wife group have a first timer uncle and a knee injured auntie, so they are expected to be slow and cautious. If exhausted, they will not summit-ting and just hang out at 8.5th. Good thing is the same hut can also see sunrise(thus their hut name is Goraikou-kan)

do u have any previous experience climbing mountains above 2500m?
coz altitude sickness can affect anyone, and it doesnt matter whether u are fit and healthy.
staying a night at the midpoint is for acclimatization to lessen or prevent altitude sickness, although some ppl will still get it. u may also want to take altitude sickness medication, but note that such medications need to be started before the climb and not when u have symptoms.
do read up on altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness (AMS) and recognise the symptoms. and like wat angcsbenny mentioned, if u experience symptoms, dun force urself and continue with the climb

Only climb before mountain a little below 2k.

Do you know which medications to take before the climb? Read some sites and it says different medicine for different symptom. Means I must eat all?

Sadly for fujinomiya, it's on the western side of the mountain, so can't see the sunrise unless you reach the peak.

The meds are only available by prescription only and you'd have to take it at least 1-2 days before the climb for it to be effective. You'll need to see a doctor nevertheless.
