Any experts here to give me some advice on aircon chemical wash? Just did my routine ( every 6 mths) aircon servicing recently and the serviceman told me that i will need to do chemical wash by the next servicing. Said the inside is quite dirty for 2 units ( out of 3) and can only be cleaned by chemical wash.

My question my aircon (inverter panasonic) is only 1.5 years old, no pblms so far just that recently not as cold sometimes. Is it common for aircons to need chemical wash so soon? Or the serviceman trying to chop me? He quoted me $120 per unit by the way.

Thks in advance.

Chemical wash should be done at least once a year.

But do be careful of topping up of the refrigerant gas. Topping up of refrigerant is not necessary. But, if there is a leak, you should be finding out the cause of the leak, not topping up the gas.

You can do once a year if you don't mind damaging your fins.

I do it at most once every five years.

Cleaning these blowers cost you $270?
This is quite easy to clean.

And i don't see MUCH effect cleaning it because I don't think it's easy to be that dirty. Look at the gaps, it's so ******* big, how can it get clog to deal much effect.

It takes a very long time before dust can accumulate enough until you have to deal with it.

Imagine the dust must go through the two filters
Go through the fins.
Then finally reach the blower.
Want to be super dirty also hard.

I don't even bother cleaning it for a few years.

Hi,

one of my aircon unit is not responding to the remote control, the remote is working fine on another unit, thus i suspect it is the sensor issue on the unit (correct me if wrong), i've seen some comments which says the sensor can be repaired/change, but none mentioned how it can be done.

mine is an LG unit (more than 5yrs), can anyone guide how i can DIY to change the sensor (seems to be a 5/10min thing), last resort would be to pay for the servicemen to do it.

much appreciated.

hi, thanks for the advice.
i am currently using manual via unit, it only enables on/off, but not temperature adjustment and the default is always very low/cold (not sure but maybe 16degree...lol), thus need to get the sensor fixed to adjust the temperature.

is this a reasonable quote or are they trying to rip me off

Hi there, we just had an aircon company come around to our flat, i thought we had already arranged for to clean the units but they're just doing a quote.

This is what they have recommended -

servicing 4 units $160
Chemical service 2 outdoor units $300
Top up gas 4 units $80
GST $37.80
Total $577.80

We live in a small 2 bedroom condo with ceiling fans so don't use the aircon very often and it is a brand new condo so they have only been used for 18 months. We have not had them chemically cleaned in that time so maybe we ought to (landlord might be upset if we don't). Not sure why or what the top up gas is for as there are no leaks.

Many thanks
