The reasoning for this is due to controversies of fairness on who would receive these awards. They want to keep the Gayo as a way to provide fun and excitement to the viewers.

SBS had given small prizes such as the 'Leader Award' in 2015 but have said they plan to not do the same thing this year. In 2014 they reformatted their Gayo into a full out awards show.

KBS abolished awards from their Gayo Daechukje in 2009 and once again plan to continue the award-less path. KBS's hosts for this year are Park Bogum and AOA's Seolhyun.


KBS Gayo Daejun will be held December 30th.

On December 6, SM Entertainment held a special gala in partnership with 'Vogue Korea' and UNICEF, titled 'SMTOWN GALA 2016, Sound of Magic'.

SM Entertainment CEO Lee Soo Man, SM president Kim Young Min, and more attended the event, and donations received during the gala were dedicated toward the 'SMile For U' campaign, launched by SM and UNICEF to send aid over to children in Vietnam.

On this day, the MV for "Sound of Your Heart", which will be 'SM Station's last release and which will also be for SM Entertainment's giving brand 'SMile', was revealed for the first time for the audience in attendance. The song features Super Junior's Yesung, Girls' Generation's Sunny, Red Velvet's Seulgi and Wendy, NCT's Taeil and Doyoung, and jazz vocalist Lee Dong Woo. The track will also feature new age pianist Steve Barakatt.

Look forward to 'SM Station's last release this coming December 30, equipped with SM Town's signature, warm, family sound!
