I was in the market for a "travel" gaming laptop, so I bought the Aero 14 last month from Gamepro. It is the 7th gen Intel gtx 1060 model. I am so far liking it. I chose to buy it over the MSI GS43VR model because the Aero 14 is slimmer, lighter and doesn't scream "gaming".
What I like:
- slim and subtle profile
- QHD IPS display
- Long battery life (it can last a day's worth of work if I don't game on it)
- The charger has a USB port
- build quality
- SD card reader!
What I don't like
- The keyboard: (1) I don't like the macro keys on the left side of any keyboard in general. It takes getting used to. (2) The keys are a bit soft/muddy to the touch. Maybe because I've been used to using mech keys. I like the GS43's keyboard better, though I like the subtle white backlight of Aero14 more. It's just a preference, I guess.
- The build quality is very good, but there are plastic parts which could've been aluminium. Since it is in the same price point of the blade, I expected more of it.
- No sata drive. So to upgrade the laptop storage, I'll have to replace the 512gb m.2 drive itself to 1gb (or higher) later on. No biggie for me as 512gb is more than what I need for it currently.
- Price. SG price that is.
There are other things people complain about the aero 14: fan noise, weak speakers and the lack of the thunderbolt port. Those don't matter to me so I don't bother. Overall, I am happy with this laptop. Had I bought the Razer blade instead? Maybe, if the Kaby lake option was available that time. Then again maybe not, because it costs a few hundred dollars more than the Gigabyte offering. And I heard bad reviews of Razer QC. My experience with Razer is limited to their mice, even then I've had to replace them every few months. (Why do I keep buying Razer?? Damn..)
