Poorer wifi ranger than previous Aztech Singtel router

I just replaced my Aztech Singtel Router with the AC66U because of all the hype and thinking that the wifi range would be better.

But I'm not sure why but there's not much change or maybe even a slight drop in the strength of the wifi signal. I currently live in a 5 room flat

My house looks something like that. The router is in the living room while my room is Room 2.

I would love to but like that need to run a lan cable on the floor. The ONT is like really near the storeroom. Would buying a ac88u router help?

Btw how does adapters work? I was recommended to get a ASUS PCI-E adapter. Will it help? Thanks for the quick responses!

Have an issue with very slow speeds on my 2.4ghz band all of a sudden. Using MR, I can usually get around 40Mbps with my Ipad mini 2 and rn3.. this morning I tried getting 1-2 Mbps only. Even beside the router. Is it possible for the 2.4ghz chip to suddenly crap out? Funny thing is, the 5ghz band is normal and getting the speeds it's supposed to be.. :(

Alternatively get a homeplug and run an AP.

Issue with Connectivity

Hi All,

Recently I upgraded my ac66u firmware to 3.0.0.4.380.3264.
Afterwhich I start experiencing interim issue on my 2.4ghz; even Though I am sure my pw is correct for the SSID, it keeps prompting as wrong password.
Somehow this is only affecting my 2.4ghz, which is basically use for my smart TV and a few small gadgets which does not have 5ghz support.

I have tried resetting and flushing, but still have the same issue on and off.
Any kind soul out there knows what exactly is the issue?

Thanks

Does you hide the ssid? Try again with it unhidden

Nope, both my SSID are unhide and I have no guest network setup.
I currently running at the default option of the latest firmware, except for the change in network ID & PW and also change in SSIDs ID & PW.

Having some fibre slow down recently. I am on ver 3.0.0.4.380_3264-g79f6bde, Singtel unlimited 1gbps. Wired speed is now hovers around 200mbps download and 300mbps up. I have tried laptop direct to ont straight and the speed is 600mbps down. So i figured it could be the lan cable from router to ont, and i replaced it. Speed went up to 500mbps, but went back down on 2nd try.

I was going to reset the settings via : Administration - Restore/Save/Upload Setting, just wondering does it reset the password as well? Cuz that would be a pain with multiple devices and printer having to re configure.

Any other solutions do you guys have? My acc66u is 3 years old, but hoping that it is not a hardware failure. Thanks in advance :)

it does sound a little like a hardware problem.. no harm trying to reset if u haven't done so after upgrading firmware..

very lucky. brought my faulty power button set for exchange, and realised the warranty is expiring on 1 Jul.

Ask whether they would give any warranty for the new set, they said. they advised me to email to Asus directly and explain to them my situation, and maybe they might give me a provisional warranty.

just brought the device alone and was given a BNIB replacement.

Anyone cut a hole on your ac66u cover which expose the heatsink and add a fan on it?

Just purchased the AC66U-B1 today@IT Show ($199).

Updated firmware to latest (3.0.0.4.380_7266-g6439257).

Having this issue with "mounting" my USB drive. It can detect the name of the USB drive, but its status remains 'unmounted'.

Format of drive is ExFat. Any other suggestions?

As far as I know, ac66u B1 does not support exFAT. You might wanna explore other filesystems.

in fact, all asus routers do not support exFAT.

Tried on my ac5300 last time, as i have a mac as well, and it didn't work.

However, maybe future firmwares might support..
