Created an account just to ask this. Recently I received 2 credit card transactions that were not authorized by me. Once in March and once in May, I didn't notice the March one until I checked back on my records and realised both charges were there. The thing is, both charges were to a local online store selliing female apparel based on Google searches? I am a dude.... The bank has cancelled my card and reverted back the charges so I technically didn't lose anything.

Will the bank pursue the person who did it? If i make a police report, will the police pursue the matter? The charges amount to less than $200. My card is from citibank if it helps.

In most cases, it costs the bank more (in money and manpower) to go after the criminals than to simply write off the fraud or charge it back to the merchant. Only with large-scale compromises and repeat offenders will the bank try to go after the perpetrator. If you make a police report, the police will pursue the matter.

I see... how far will the police go to catch the perpetrator? Like tracing IP addresses, shipping address etc? Happened to a friend of mine before, hers was $600+ and the police didn't do anything at all. Is <200 too little for them to pursue? :s22:

I would say the police won't even bother. They just take your statements only. After that no follow up. Speaking from experience.

Especially if it's foreign transaction. Maybe they'll take action if many people report the same crime and the perpetrator is in Singapore

Sent from Samsung SM-G930F using GAGT

Bank credited back the amount to my debit card

Ok lah from UK maybe thats why they cannot track. But mine in SG, the police here like don't really care esp if you alr got the money back

Overseas. I got a slew of OTP messages and called DBS this morning and found out.

If you got OTP messages and the transactions went through, does it mean the attacker somehow has access to your OTP messages? That's quite scary.

There was a recent well publicized case where hackers gained access to German telcos and redirected the OTP messages to their own phones. Happened just in January.

DBS told me that the transactions went through as offline. Hence no OTP required.
