Does a different brand HDD with same RPM affect RAID rebuild? The working disk does not have the signs leading up to the failure of the failed disk, and important folders are already synced to OneDrive.

Even if rotation speed different, NAS performance is as fast as the slowest disk. Go ahead and get Toshiba 7200rpm 4TB HDD.

dont need right? Most nas are limited by network throughput of gigabit network of merely 110-120MB/s read write rates.

Yah, was considering Toshiba, any specific model to recommend? I believe the 4TB Red bought 3.5 years ago was 5400RPM, according to official WD spec sheet.

It depends on the hard disk.
I have WD RED hard disks that fail within the 3 years warranty and also those that goes above 3 years.
62 more days and this will be 4 years in the Synology NAS.

Hope it is money well spent on a lower performance hdd for premium price.

This was the best option for 3TB NAS hard disk in 2013. HGST NAS only launch in 2014 and Toshiba don't have 3TB in 2013. 3TB hard disk was limited to WD and Seagate, which would you have choose?

I am wrong about Toshiba not having 3TB in 2013. But think it wasn't in my option as it doesn't have the 3 years warranty unless I remember wrongly.
Not sure if the WD blue have 3 years warranty in 2013.

The previous photo I posted was WD Green 3TB.=:p
Got mix up between my NAS.

This is the actual photo on WD Red.

My photo is just to show that it is still possible for a WD Red to be in a Synology NAS running close to 4 years.

There are better choices now and buying a hard disk still depends on many factors.

Need some expert advice here - For a 8 bays diskstation and currently used only 4 bays with 4TB HDD on each with RAID5 = Volume space of 12TB. Can I expand this 12TB by adding 4TB HDD x 4 (set to RAID5 as well) to have a total volume of 24TB OR it will be actually 2 separate volume name 12TB each?
