Amazon prices around 550usd after taxes, is it considered cheap? I tried looking at local price lists, they're about 800 plus sgd? Anyone knows why the prices are lower now?

Prices could be lowering due to rumours of a 1070TI incoming, clearing stock slowly for Volta and/or just price adjustments to reflect the current market :o

Please note that since the item is over 400 bucks, you will need to add GST to it.

I'm referring to nvidia branded card. Was it ever usd $499 despite the announcement?

Well as per AnandTech, still 2 tier price
AnandTech said:
As for pricing, with the launch of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, NVIDIA and their partners are shuffling their product stacks to accommodate the new card. The GTX 1080 Ti is being priced at $699, which was the original launch price for the GeForce GTX 1080 Founder’s Edition. The GTX 1080 has in turn received a price cut, with the base cards going down to $499, and the Founder’s Edition going down to $549. For better or worse this $699 price tag does work out to being a bit of a price hike over the GeForce GTX 980 Ti – it launched at $649 two years ago – but at the same time it's still more aggressive than I had been expecting given the GTX 1080's launch price last year.

I realised all those 550usd plus gtx 1080 are the 10gbps ram ones... which actually mean it isn't really that great a deal considering there are 11gbps ones out already..

Depends on the price difference. If the gap is small, definitely go for the card with the faster memory. If the gap is something like 50+ USD (last I checked), and you only use the card for gaming, the literal extra few fps isn't worth that.
