Bunch of fraudulent transactions on DBS WWMC

Above you see bunch of fraud transactions ended up on my DBS WWMC. I got notification via SMS just on one such transaction and immediately called on Sep 15th.

Was told that there are more transaction which did not make thru, was told that credit card is canceled and replacement will be sent via mail.

Today I am checking the statement and volla - all these transactions are there. Called DBS and told them to re-issue the statement without these transactions. They say that they can't because it is automatically generated.

Now, I have GIRO autopayment setup with this card. I asked - does this means that system will deduct the amount which is in the statement? Got answer that yes - which obviously is not an acceptable answer.

So, question right now - should I go and terminate GIRO immediately to avoid funds deduction from the account? If yes, now much time will it take? Ironically I setup GIRO just a month ago so this deduction should be the first one.

Anyone has similar problem?

Have you submit a dispute on these fraudulent transactions?

The banks would continue to bill the cardholders these charges. Reason shared by another bank is that they have to protect the merchants too as it can be a case of buyer regret. A dispute will generally take at least 15 days.

As you are on GIRO payment, it will be difficult to arrange how much you will pay. In my case with another bank where I pay by bank transfer closer to the due date, I was told I can choose not to pay the fraudulent charges. I will be subjected to late charge and interest but I can ask for a waiver when the dispute is settled. I did not get to test the process though as the merchant, Paypal, was very prompt in assisting me to reverse the fraudulent charges after verifying my identity.

Just request for a chargeback and remind the bank none of these charges will be paid. Your liability for fraudulent charges are max $100

Never set up GIRO for credit cards. Only do so for trusted payments like IRAS, CPF etc

Update. DBS called and said they instead of removing transactions and re-generate the statement will instead post credit to these transactions effectively equalizing them so only the legitimate transaction amount will be deducted from GIRO. I'll wait how it will work.

Separate question regarding the liability. My understanding that my liability is zero especially for cases when I was in possession of the card all the time - which was the case - the card never left my apartment last 5 years.

Last 5 years I did not setup GIRO for credit cards but I finally got fed up after two of my checks were returned because they could not distinguish '7' from '1' the the date. And now, right after that - got hit by this.

In which form? I got SMS notification, called immediately, that was on 15th of Sep. DBS rep said that she sees other transactions too. I said that none of them was done by me. Was told that they won't be authorized.

Do I need to go and fill the form? My RM (I am Treasures Client) said too that it has been taken care of.

My case is that why I would buy something Facebook related in VND while in Singapore?

BTW, this is second last 3 month case I hot hit on DBS cards. And WWMC card never physically left my apartment.

nowadays internet banking is very convenient, don't think you need checks...

Just do a 1-time setup for each credit card with your IB account. Every month when bill comes, just key in the amount.

ABS has already stated clearly your max liability is $100 even before notifying the bank. Surprised your RM did not share this info with you

Have u checked ur PC/device for any malware presence? These could be transmitting ur cc details to overseas criminals which then use ur card for their fraud activities

No malware or whatever, first. Secondly I have not used the card for online purchases.

got notification via SMS a trnx of $4000+ usd in my dbs Amex altitude card moments ago....called in and cso had same sop apply,they gonna issue credits to waive it.

Hey, welcome to the club. Could you share transactions here? Was it Facebook?

My Treasures amex got affected several month ago but that time it was only about $300 fraudulent charges. Now seems they are getting bolder.

All of us affected should meet for a kopi and say hello to each other. :) I think this will be a good reason to book one of these conference room in their Treasures Centers.

I used my WWMC as recently as two days ago. Luckily I haven't got any SMS on unauthorized charges yet..

But seriously DBS seem to have a hole somewhere..

Maybe a Trojan left behind by an ex staff?

Basically her username/password for Uber account was leaked somewhere/by other means, they logged in and hijacked email address/notifications.

In my case, the card was not used for online purchases. I was using it last 4 years to top up FEVO and occasional airline and AirBnB reservations and Amazon purchases. Nothing else.

can happen to any card actually,purely by luck.
maybe AMEX card easier to crack cos my last round of DBS fraud were with AMEX cards

They ask me to transfer full amount and they will credit back to me next month...

No, don't pay. Just call and dispute then they will send a form to fill up. Just fill up and send back to them. They will credit the money back to your account, no need to pay.
