Suggestions for gaming wifi set up

Hi guys, can i know how you have set up your network for gaming? Currently i am gaming on wifi. My singtel modem is in the hall while my pc is in the room. It has the asus pce ac68 wifi card, but the wifi signal is only 1-2 bar. With that connection already my gaming experience not bad with overwatch frequently at single digit ping and battlefield 1 servers usually at 30+ ping. I just want to get some ideas from other people's set ups to improve my own setup for even better networking performance in future.

You need to move your gaming rig closer to the router.. gaming requires good latency, wifi is too unstable as anything can cause a spike in latency..

I see. But i face restrictions on both sides. Like the gaming rig is as close as it can get, as i dont want to bring it to the living room. On the singtel modem side, it is restricted by the singtel ONT as the opennet box is also in my living room.

then you might wanna consider installing an access point near your rig?

wireless gaming is too unstable due to spikes in ping..

I see. Thank you. But pardon me for noob question, but what exactly is an access point? Is it that square box thing where you plug in phone line?

Technically you can. But some cheap access point only has an ethernet port. There are some other models which has 4 or 5 other ports for usage..

Do select carefully taking note of how many ports you need..

Oh i see. So i can just buy an access point myself? Dont need singtel to come install anything right? Like its just connecting a lan cable from my singtel modem to my access point?

Some routers come with built in mode selection, just choose "AP" and follow the steps.

Those that don't have friendly setup wizards, just disable DHCP.
Connect cable from Router LAN > AP LAN

hmm, can so for the access point, I can buy something such as ASUS Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Router, Black ( RT-AC68U) by Asus, then placed it in my study room. My desktop can connect lan to the ASUS router, while the router at the same time, can emit WIFI?

Yes. Both lan and Wi-Fi from the AP will provide internet.

Thank you for ur kind response. May I know would you recommend to do the setup of Asus or using uni AP pro where I see guys place the thing in the ceiling

Unless you have POE setup on your house, regular AP is your only choice between the 2.

hi if you are going to run a lan cable to your room then just connect it directly to your pc.. i understood that boosting your wifi signal is not part of your requirement right?

As mentioned above, if your aim is to only connect from router to pc by lan cable, you don't need an AP. Unless you need Wi-Fi coverage as well.

Yes I gotta have wifi got cell phone devices etc as well

Is your house the new type where they laid cat 6 cable?
If don't mind wire I suggest lay a cable to certian room then get an router ap there
More reliable instead of wireless bridge
