The single lot trades are usually done by the institutions to see who's on the other end of the trade.

Can just see the market depth right?

I think it maybe it's for fund managers to window dress..imagine u own 100000 lots..just throw 1 lot to bid up the share price, your 100000 lots immediately increase in value

Share prices can only be manipulated in such a way if the volume is low...

Trading of minimal lot size can often be used to affect stock price and confidence level.

1 lot how to affect sentiment? well if you intend to buy a stock at 0.8 and you realize the price quickly go up to 0.805 by a 1lot order every time it touches 0.8, many buyers might just buy at 0.805 instead just to avoid hassle. Multiply that by 500 people thinking the same and you get higher purchase sentiment and that is good for the seller.

The same can work in reverse way too.

Sucks. Wanted to sell 140,000 units at .085 and some dumb got to take just 1000 units. Too late to dump the balance at lower price to clear my balance.

If he take 100 (or 1 lot), proceed not enough to pay for min brokerage of $10.

Agree.

For me 1 lot = 1000 shares
The new 1 lot = 100 shares @ SGX is not
worth trading with my iOCBC / POEMS fee.
$10-20k each buying.

I tried selling 2000 shares at the end of the trading session but only 1100 transacted. Try to minimize commission using 1000 shares may not happen all the time.

I was caught once like that with a tiny portion sold. :o
Lesson learned: queue early or trade at market price if later afternoon

used to be 1000 shares? My ocbc broker had confirm with me 1 lot = 1000 shares recently. hmm..

You heard wrong from you broker?

1 lot = 100 units.

SGX reduced the board lot size from 1000 to 100 in January 2011.

What are the board lot sizes of the various products?
•Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are traded in board lots of 5, 10 or 100.
•American Depository Receipts (ADRs) are traded in board lots of 10.
•Fixed income products are traded in board lots of 10, 100 or 1,000.

many of the 1 lot (100 shares) trades are automated transactions by computers executed according to algorithm predefined.
