I used to sub to VQ. Share abit what i am experiencing.
Currently on Gamer plan 1G.
Speed wise no different . Have yet to face any downtime from M1.
You tube load faster compared to VQ and no buffering.
( sometimes VQ will buffer when i am on Youtube but not frequent)

I dont use the default router so that one cant share much.

I signed up my plan at shop. Can set the installation date with the sale. Online u can sign up also.

Pros and cons all depends on your area, your needs. Have to do your homework lo, a good place to begin - https://blog.moneysmart.sg/budgetin...ovider-has-the-best-1-gbps-plan-in-singapore/ but slightly outdated.

Free routers are all mainstream basic routers, again depends on your usage, your house size for wifi, etc. Generally, it will suffice for all basic needs and normal sized home.

Roadshows would be the best time for sign-ups, but beware of the crowd and the long long queue. The first IT Show 2018, there was a deal for first 500 sign-ups where $39 for 2gbps fiber which starts at 12pm, had queued and waited for like 4hrs.

Thanks for the tip. But do M1 throttle the speeds?

Eh i dont find any slowdown during peak period. Instead the download speed is better than VQ during peak lol... could be routing issue.

All ISP technically throttle their traffic

I did not sign up 2Gbps plan because cso told me i will get throttled by the website i visited so i do not see the point of having 2Gbps connection.

I guess it's so for my 1gbps plan. I don't really trust their no-throttling, and they really need to manage the bandwidth

Sometime there are some different for 1Gbps plan. During the last show, M1 offer first 500 Customers free upgrade to 2Gbps at the price of 1Gbps $39 to encourage people to go to the actual fair. First time an isp has done that in Sg. No other isp has done that before M1 did it. For 2Gbps their ONT is different.

Thks for the info. I guess such promos are rare. Will probably just switch at their M1 shop once contract over

Used to be VQ subscriber too. Don't bother with it. Always got downtime.

M1 at least half the price and no downtime at all.

I'm on 300mbps, most wifi routers (using netgear Orbi here) cant even saturate that over wifi

Hmm.. Can I check guys. The M1 broadband is Asus AC1200G+ and the speed is 2.4ghz at 300mbps and 5ghz at 867mbps. How does this work though? If I subscribed the 1gbps plan will the speeds be too slow? Cause it does reach 1gbps on both frequency right? Or does it add up?

The speeds ratings on the router are theoretically it's maximum. In the real world you probably won't get close to its rated speeds due to obsticals interference etc. Unless you have a need for super fast WiFi. I suggest putting the devices you need fast internet on LAN.

Appreciate the reply. However if I understand correctly - my current router has a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz frequency which can be connected to separately. I'm wondering for this one is It the same? Or do the speeds add up for the 2.4 and 5ghz and it's just one connection?

They claim that they do not throttle, they say website we visit throttle and control our traffic.

Perhaps the really do not throttle. Just that during peak hours, the usage will saturate the infrastructure causing slowdowns. Just guessing.

But what they said make sense too. Locally, you probably can hit 1Gbps or higher. But outside of Singapore, it is unlikely you can still sustain that speed.

I agree. Ever since I moved to M1 from VQ, I don't get all these downtime where previously I need to contact the customer service and wait for them to fix the issue. Fuss free since I moved last year September.

I moved from 1Gbps to 500Mbps now. To be honest, there is no difference for me despite the "downgrade". Unless you have multiple people using the connection for gaming or bandwidth heavy tasks like torrenting, it is unlikely for you to hit 1Gbps. I realized what most ISP do is to sell you 1Gbps or more for a higher price. But they know based on their internal metrics that most people don't use that much bandwidth. So the extra that you paid for the 2Gbps for example, is just additional income for them for service not utilized. Some people have genuine need for higher bandwidth, but I feel 90% of consumers just chase after the higher bandwidth but don't use it.
