The people with broken remotes and the people with broken capacitors should combine their units to form one working unit

Which probably becomes a unit with broken remote and broken capacitors a year later. :s13:

In the past we had Altec Lansing and Creative

Then Altec Lansing died

Then Creative also died (although their really low price speakers are still decent)

So you don't really have a choice now.

BTW, looks like z263 is currently $149 during Lazada's GSS

People replace with learning remotes, replace the broken capacitor?

Same price as during IT shows

At this price... I think is worth giving it a shot.

It may not score very well as a USD$79 product,

but would be more worth it at lower prices.

Active, stereo input, crossover adjustment.
to be honest, is there really a market for $200 subwoofer in Singapore? People who are audiophile, will spend at least $500 for a subwoofer. People who don't have money or love audio enough, will just get a packaged 2.1 system.

Who, at that budget, will have the interest and expertise to buy subwoofer and speakers separately? Very very very small market

These are usually used to complete the set for their 5.1. Infinity Primus sub is for, well, Infinity Primus, and then we have Wharfedale Diamond 10SX for... Diamond 10.

I don't think there is another tier. There is a limit to how much performance you can squeeze out of complete 2.1 systems. Higher tier based on price maybe, like the discontinued Jamo i300, and perhaps Focal Little Bird? But I wonder if they have enough performance difference to justify the price difference.

This is how Promedia can last for so long and people are asking how to repair their 10-year-old units. Because there is nothing to upgrade to and nobody has bothered to make one.

Because to get better performance than 3-inchers, you need to go 5-inch, or 6-inch, and by that time, people realize why would you need a 6.5-inch sub when your satellite woofers are also 6.5-inch? So they realize they can actually sell the speakers without the sub. Bigger subs are still needed for lower bass, but at this point they become optional instead of a necessity.

So it's not that higher end 2.1 systems can't exist, but due to logical choices, they don't. But they can. Edifier S301, but they call it 2.0+1 instead of 2.1 because it can operate in 2.0 mode too.

well, learnt a new thing today.

I think I know why. I've been too engrossed in the audiophile community that seeks a subwoofer for music. Forgot all about the home theater/gaming community that needs a subwoofer for boom only.

Well Home Theater also need great woofer....especially on Jurassic Park T-rex water-cup scene....then you will get the "bump" tight control bass....cheap sub can't do that in term of power handling and light cabinet that can't absorb unwanted vibration resulting distorted bass....is bad for movies

3 owners of dead Bose on the same page, this does not look well for longevity recommendation.

I used my Bose Companion 20 every single day on my computer...
my computer is on almost 12 hours daily...
the speakers is basically on as much ...with me just turning on youtube videos and playing it while listening..

My Bose companion 20 has been with me for 10 years and still running.

Petetherock may i ask why you choose Denon AVC X8500H over Marantz SR8012....I know Denon AVC X8500H is a 13.2 channel amp vs Marantz's 11.2 channel amp....Denon has a updated AKM 4490EQ DAC as compare to Marantz....I saw internal layout of marantz using a toroidal transformer so it has cleaner power supply? i always thought marantz is a music based amp as denon is more towards a home theater movie amp.....I am deciding to upgrade my existing AV amp to pair with 2 pair of R50 as my old receiver have no Atmos support so i wanna know which is a better buy?
