Unifi controller, just took it off AWS about a month back.

Does sharing pfsense network interface with a VM cause any slowdown? I had a VM and proxmox run on the same LAN port before and any network activity causes to CPU usage to go up and vpn server is slow to respond. Moving the VM to its dedicated network interface solved both issue.

I have both the unifi controller and pfsense VM connected to the same LAN vSwitch which is attached to a single physical interface, didn't notice any slow downs with the OpenVPN server that's being run on the pfsense VM.

Since the UniFi Controller isn't going to generate a lot of traffic, I've went ahead and spun up a windows VM; ran a few speed tests on the windows VM and everything still runs smooth, no noticeable slow down even when connected through the VPN server. :s12:

Oh, and all the VMs are using vmx3net virtual NICs with Directpath I/O enabled.

Maybe is due to the built in realtek NIC. Or I may have set my network device as intel e1000. My issue is openVPN responsiveness. Running an iperf test shows no issue. Switching to a dedicated NIC fix that weirdness.

After asking on the pfsense forums, it seems that software bridges will be slower interms of latency compared to hardware switches and its best to have a dedicated network port of network intensive programs like routers etc.

Adding the USG Pro to my own setup. I had requested Viewqwest to put my zhone into bridge mode (I asked them to disable dhcp and switch to bridge mode but for some reason it's stuck in bridge mode with DHCP enabled) but somehow can't get it to work.

Could I trouble you for your zhone modem settings?

No Special settings, I just asked for the zhone to be in bridged mode with DHCP running and I set the WAN ports on the USGPro to DHCP.

Want to check - I am also planning to change to a full Ubiquiti set up and I am on Viewqwest (1 GBPS plan)

USG (still thinking either USG or USG pro 4)
US-16-150W
Cloud Key
2 UAP (still deciding between Pro and nano HD)

My current set up is zhone modem (bridge mode) connected to a asus ac-68u (router). Do I need to call up Viewqwest to inform them I need to change router and to provide with the new router information? I remembered the technician telling me something along that line.

Changed to a single 16 port switch to avoid all the interswitch links and also moved all of the equipment into a proper server rack. A lot more quieter and infinitely neater..

what power strip or PDU are you using?

Finally got both of my access points mounted to the ceiling to improve the coverage cone. One for each floor of the house.

Oh my, you mentioned you only had 1 AC-pro though.

I see that you have a false ceiling . Why not run the wiring through that instead of using the casing?

Last I heard there is no need but do standby to call in with your USG Mac address.

I went with pro but I ceiling mount both. Nano or pro, depends on your house layout.

I have 1 AP in each room. All bedrooms uses the UAP-AC-IW . Living room has 2 UAP-AC-LR, one at each end of the house.

I like to flood the house with 5G. 5G has very poor wall penetration, hence need 1 AP per room

No longer needed to call into Viewqwest for a router change.
Get the Nano-HD if you have the budget, more future-proof.

I have 2 AC-PROs now. 1 for each level.
Only reason is that I don't have the skill to run it thru the false ceiling.. heh.

How is that working for you? I might need 1xIW for my master bedroom. Already have the CAT6 cabling that goes there...

how is the noise of the
1. US-16-150W
2. USG pro 4

I read many other websites/forums

1. US-16-150W is ok, quite quiet
2. USG pro 4 is very noisy and they had to change the fan.

Is this true?

It's not that noisy but very noticeable if it's on the desk in a study room, etc. I did change the fans to the Noctua ones and its way-way less noisy now.
