Used i7 4770k or 4790k

My current setup is using i5-4570, gigabyte h81m-ds2 mobo, 8gb DDR3 1600Mhz and a Gigabyte gtx 970 G1 gaming. Am thinking of changing to either of the above mentioned processors + z87/97 mobo, which would be more bang for the buck or are there other better options? Thanks in advance

If you are changing CPU+MB, might as well change the RAM and go for a new build.

Suggest you just add another 8GB of DDR3 and upgrade the GPU instead.

Such as the ryzen 2600 build? But my MB only has 2sodimm slots, and won’t my gpu be bottlenecked by the CPU? Also the reason why, I wanna change the CPU and MB

Because the 2600 is quite similar in price to the 4770k used, just a tad bit more costly but outperforms the 4770k in performance.

6 core 12 threads CPU that usually can be had for bout 250 SGD on promo or even cheaper by this xmas sales versus a used 4th gen, 4 core 8 threads CPU that costs slightly less.

Granted, the mobo will cost alot more for the AMD choice but the performance gain is insanely higher than the 4770k. And its a brand new CPU, and much more stable than the much older, used CPU you'd be buying.

Yup, Ryzen is a good choice.

Two DIMM slots is a bit tricky. You can consider selling off the existing 2X4GB and buy 2X8GB of DDR3.

i5-4570 is still fine for gaming except for perhaps the latest games. The limiting factor nowadays is GPU and not CPU. In any case, the i5-4570 will not be limited by the GTX 970.

The Ryzen 5 2600 is going for $240, including 3 year local warranty at carousell now. Shall see whether there are good deals during the Xmas sales.

However, should I go for the B350 or the B450 MB’s? I know that the latter has 2nd gen Ryzen support straight out of the box, better Memory support which is quite essential as the RAM speeds play a big part in Ryzen. But isit really better than the former and worth the price difference?

I’ve put up my CPU + MB + RAM for sale, hopefully someone buys it lol. Previously, I’ve been using i7 CPU’s but I could feel the difference after downgrading the the i5 lineup. Probably cause, I like to multi task and open a lot of **** at one go?

Digressing away, would u guys recommend the Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi CPU cooler? I’ve seen quite good reviews about it, and am thinking of getting one

Don't bother buying a used 4770+mobo combo, because the total cost and longevity of a 2nd hand mobo(basically, your luck) that is already 3-4years old just isn't justifiable, imo.

Intel made a leap going from the 7th to 8th gen processors, to compete with AMD, which included additional cores and resulted in pushing what was past i5 processors into 8th gen i3 territory. A quick search on carouhell, shows that the 2nd hand market(7th gen and below) doesn't seem to reflect that at all.

Just follow the advice of the bros above and get a new ryzen instead.

Note: Thats not a 4770k, its a 4790k that is hilariously overpriced used(carouhell/gumhell/sghell) and new. Costs almost about the same as a 2600x.

8700/8700k are both more powerful yes, and alot more expensive. Price/performance ratio is lower compared to ryzen(like always )
