I think this setting plays a important part

multicast rage: OFDM54

correct me if I’m wrong. No network expert here but just tweaking from what I researched
I see u compare this with orbi. How big is your house?

I’m skeptical that this could benefit me more (in terms of range) than orbi for my mansionette. Even with orbi I’m still getting one dead spot.

Does this ax88u have the range of 2 orbis?

It depends on the size of your house and also, any obstruction along the way.

I still faced poor signal at far end of my house which is a old 5-rooms but nevertheless, the range is slightly better than my previous AC87U

1,300 sqft only. My placement of orbi rbk50 is already optimal but my ring doorbell takes about 6-8 seconds to connect (sometimes it just keep loading) as compared to the 2-3 seconds now

The furthest end room which is blocked by 2 walls can receive full range signal with both orbi rbk50 (sometimes drop to 2bars) and ASUS Ax88u. Previously with ASUS ac68u not able to.

Room blocked by one wall can get about 100mbps on rbk50 now I can easily get a 300mbps.

Close range orbi rbk50 can get about 300-400 on avg. Ax88u can do 400-600+

All of the above I can conclude one unit of Ax88u can beat the rbk50 and rbr50

I think worth the purchase. They have 2 other models ax11000 and ax6100 (2 mesh units) as well but both not available in Singapore yet. The ax11000 can get from China. After conversion is about 1k sgd excluding taxes which is expensive and also warranty not covered locally.

Edit: one more thing I like about this router. Constant 5-7 m/s ping while playing mobile legends. Bad experience with the rbk50 getting erratic ping. Sometimes the dl and ul speed of rbk50 gets lower than 100mbps and u have to reset both the satellite and router (reported by others on their forum as well)

Agreed. A piece of good equipment. I am looking forward to the AX6100 to setup my second network

Not to forget this router is in the early stage. Not necessary to jump on it at this moment. May we see more firmware updates and Merlin working on it =:p

All WiFi routers will have to comply with regulations regarding WiFi output strength.

most newish routers will perform very similarly to each other in terms of range. There are some routers with larger and more sensitivity antennas which may help with receiving week signals form low powered device but those wouldn't be significantly better then other routers.

Also every AX router / access point on sale now only complies to the draft standard for AX. In the event where the finalised WiFi AX standard changes, any routers made before it may not work with AX devices.

Unfortunately mine is a 2 storey flat and unlikely a single router can cover top floor completely.

Stuck with my orbi then. Unless there's other better setups.

Using the router for last 2 weeks. Working like a charm. Big upgrade from the previous setup of AC87 + Linksys Velop. Using this in a 5room HDB flat.

Wow so just 1 on its own and coverage enough over the velop?

I am thinking whreht to try to swap from my existing orbi

Why choose this when there’s ax92u?

Worth to consider. I switch to AX88 also coz there is only one set required, rather than 3 velop in home. I also believe Velop does not really improve the speed of the internet, just extend the range. I was getting between 30-80mbps in my bedroom. Now I can get 120-150 mbps average using AX88.
