the biggest problem with starhub's new plans is the removal of shareplus plans. completely no use for getting their lines anymore

Means you cannot share the data with supplementary number? Then it will be same case as singtel..

There is no VAS SharePlus (supplementary number) available for the new mobile SIM only plans.

Plus there are some of the VAS services not applicable for the new mobile SIM only plans.

All this new plans cost around $20-40 so few plans under $10

That is still cheaper than the S$30-60 or higher people need to pay for the original plan.

Zero1 S$9.90 “1GB to Unlimited” plan is of great value to many users and can be useful secondary plan even for heavy users. Still it may not be good enough to be the main plan.
Ref: https://zero1.sg/plans

Circle.Life S$0 plan is an interesting plan and seems to be perfect for light users.
https://pages.circles.life/flexiplan/

Combine the two might be a good replacement for me — I am paying around S$43 (S$(42.9+5)*0.9=S$43.11) for the combo 2 with 2GB only data but with SingTel Circle plan benefits (annual handset upgrade is valued at S$350 by SingTel). Two years with two subsidies mean S$700 value, so effectively two years the payment is S$(43.11x24-700)=S$334.64 or S$13.94 per month. This is cheaper than the S$20 SingTel SIM only plan I am thinking of switching to in the future. But the S$20 SIM only plan comes with 5GB (or 10GB now with promotion) data which is way better than the Combo 2.

The S$350 value is roughly correct for iPhone and medium to higher end Android phones. I got my Huawei P20 at S$278 whereas Huawei offer price for 12.12 P20 price is at S$648.

So it comes down to whether it is worth to buy a subsidised phone every year. I think no need since effective economic life span of iPhones are about 3-4 years and Android phones are probably about 2-3 years. So no need to get new phones every year.

Just a summary: two options to replace Combo 2 plan
1) Cheapest option
S$9.9 Zero 1 plan plus S$0 Circle.Life Flexi plan, 2GB data and then unlimited throttled data

2) S$20 SIM only plan, 5GB data or 10GB with promotion now

I think I will choose Option 2 in the future when my contract expires in two years time. Probably only SIM Only plan exist at that time.

Hmm I forgot to add S$5 for the caller ID. Option 2 becomes S$25.

The CIS plan for normal Combo 2 plan has the free caller ID. But no mention of free caller ID for CIS SIM only plan...

Company CIS Sim Only plan from SingTel:

10GB + 2GB, S$36.05 per month
30GB + 3GB, S$46.75 per month

Freebies:
6 free months of Apple Music, 150 mins talk time and 500 SMS

Free registration and SIM card worth S$48.15

Currently using $0 plan from circle life. I also wont buy a phone that cost over $300.

For android phones it's critical for me to get one with an unlockable bootloader so I can root and install custom ROMs. Without it 3+ years later u get no more updates form the manufacturer.

Curious what is the phone you are using now.

Apple iPhones can stretch to about 4-5 years with a battery change in between if you really want. On the other hand you can buy two medium end Android phones to achieve the same goal at the same price.

All in all Mobile phones are still cheap enough to change every two to three years for many people in this forum. So very few people will use an Android for 5-6 years I guess.

For cars that is a different story but there are still people changing cars every 3-5 years and then there are people who renew the COE after 10 years. Very different spectrum.

I currently use a redmi note 3 pro that my dad won in a lucky draw :)

Use for I think almost 3 years Liao battery still going strong.

Personally I don't trust apple to not pull a planned obsolescence software update eventually. From my experience on my iPad 2, iOS 4-7 was good and 8-9 made my iPad so slow it's unusable :( . Looking at apple forums it's seems my experience is shared with most people.

I had a friend that used a iPhone 3gs and that got a worse usable lifespan. It's hilarious to remember apple used to advertise that phone as the fastest iPhone yet lol.

Personally I want to maximise the usibility of every device I own. if there is a phone that has custom ROMs support and removable battery,I will choose it over a phone that doesn't because I want to squeeze out everything form my devices. An iPhone or anything apple makes is the opposite of what I want for my devices.

Okay you are lucky this is a good one with Long life, just like my Mi Max 1 (Snapdragon 650). The newer Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2 use Snapdragon 625 and are downgrad from CPU performance point of view. Even the current generation Redmi Note 5/6 and Mi Max 3 are only a bit better with Snapdragon 636. So I guess you can continue to use it for at least another two years or 3 years more if you are lucky with battery or battery change. Xiaomi is a good choice in this aspect.

Very unlikely as Online store is separate entity from Starhub shops.

This means you want to enjoy the $30 rebates which will deduct from your subscription based on $5 /month for 6 months.
