No more ipv6 in Singtel home 1G fibre broadband?

Renewed my plan last year. A Huawei ONR and a new router were installed. Now no ipv6 address can be obtained from WAN. But I remember that in early 2018 I could visit some ipv6-based PT sites without setting anything on my network.

You need to call Singtel to re-provision IPV6 if you are using ONR. The configuration may have been lost somehow.


I am on Singtel Unlimited Fibre (never bothered renewing, so continuing to enjoy benefits) including self-configuration.


If you can change the settings yourself: (take note that some IPV4 sites may malfunction, such as singteltv.com.sg )

Thx for sharing the config. But there is no interface to input these settings since the ipv6 page is grey in the AC Plus router and there is no setting page in the Huawei ONR.

Well... gxgx to those who switched out of Unlimited Fibre

Actually many on SingTel normal 1Gbps plan are still with ONT. Only new subscribers get ONR. Existing users/upgraders can continue to use the ONT.

I tried combining the old ONT with current router but it seems that there is no Internet access. I open the ONT's admin page and find out that I do not even know the ONT's login user and password

Forget about it. SingTel backend needs to be involved to get it working.

Just wondering why you get the ONR in the first place if you were using ONT before. Is it because you upgraded to 2Gbps plan?

No bandwidth upgrade is involved.
There was a promotion with less monthly pay. And the roadshow staff just offered a contract with free new router and ONR. And then...

ONT doesn't have an admin page... you meant the ONR???

Actually ONT does have a login page. If you combine the ONT with the new AC Plus router you will find out it is true. And the login password is the WPA password on the sticker provided by Sintel.

Scheduled a 1688 call. And the customer service staff sent me a copy of sales agreement stating that ipv6 provisioning is included. However, @WTF!!!!! is right about it that Huawei ONR does not provide NAT of ipv6. It means that no matter what kind of amendment Singtel makes on their side, the ipv6 connectivity will not be available unless the ONR can receive and route ipv6 data package.

Since when does ipv6 need NAT?

Thanks. Never really bothered with IPv6 until today, but the above settings work well on my year 2014 Linksys WRT1900AC and it works fine. I am using ONT though.

No problem with SingtelTV.com.sg which just redirects to the main Singtel TV website.

Called support and was passed around all over the place, eventually was told that ipv6 is not supported at all...

I had IPv6 for years in the UK since the early 2000s with a tunnel and native connectivity since 2006, never encountered anything that didn't work because of it although back in those days there were few IPv6 sites out there and most routers couldn't handle it (i had to buy a fairly expensive cisco 1701 when i got native ipv6 in 2006 as it was pretty much the only router capable of supporting ipv6 over adsl).

If a site doesn't have IPv6, then it will make no difference whatsoever as your machine won't attempt to use it.
If a site has IPv6 but for whatever reason the IPv6 is down, your machine will fall back to IPv4 and try that instead, fallback usually occurs in <1s... You can use ipv6-test.com to test that this is working correctly.
If you're using an old device which doesn't support ipv6 then it will also make no difference, as the device will make no attempt to use it.

In some circumstances having dual stack will improve reliability - for instance if there are routing problems which break one protocol but not the other.
