In terms of diversification do you think it would still be one that tracks the Canadian stock index, and one global one e.g. IWDA alternative?
The latter. I would not overweight Canadian listed stocks any earlier than until you have an unambiguous right of abode in Canada (i.e. you're able to retire there).

Would I have to be mindful of disposing IWDA/ES3 at a certain point?
I'm not an expert on the Canadian tax code, but if it's like the U.S. tax code in how it treats capital gains then the time to dispose of IWDA, ES3, and any other appreciated assets that you're holding is before you even step foot in the country. That's something to check before you even get on a plane to see how the Canadian tax code calculates the cost basis of those and other assets you're holding for purposes of Canadian capital gains tax.

Hi Shiny,

If I were to treat the monies in my CPF as part of the bond component, is it alright if I were to invest in just G3B with POSB IS?

Many thanks. :)

Yep, but don't forget the IWDA as well.

It's nice, if I want to reduce the risk of the IEAC / HIGH mix, I think I can add some SE15 (corp but 1-5yr maturity, lower than IEAC) or IBGX (gov 3-5) etc..

Merci pour vos conseils les hardwarezoniens !

Pas de problem! I wouldn't get too overcomplicated though: I think just one or two ETFs is fine. Unless you're going to need the money in a very short time, it's not worth going too hard and spreading across too many ETFs. (Don't forget, short-duration investment-grade corporate bonds are going to have absolutely trash yields as well - most European corporates can borrow short-term at negative yields already.)

Hi, silly question, but when you guys mention "invest 1k sgd a month" does it refer to total investment amount across all 3 components or per component e.g. 1k for just IWDA?

400 - G3B or ES3
400 - IWDA
200 - A35 or MBH

With the above split, is it still SCB for local stock and bond and IB for IWDA?

Not a silly question at all. The thing to keep in mind is that you'll generally only want to buy one counter per month, so that you're not running up multiple transaction fees. So in your example, it might be more like:

Month 1: $1k into ES3
Month 2: $1k into IWDA
Month 3: $1k into ES3
Month 4: $1k into IWDA
Month 5: $1k into MBH
...repeat.

To add on to Shinys reply for 1k in only one asset per month above, you will then use SCB for ES3 and MBH and IB for IWDA

Hello. Before I started reading "rich by retirement" I had already placed $30k in SSB. Using the "110-your age" guideline. It would be 40-40-20 for me. However, I have yet to purchase any stock yet and I'm intending to DCA $300 in local and $900 in IWDA quarterly. What should I do to the $30k in my ssb. Should I withdraw it or should I ignore it and purchase MBH as my bond portion?
Also, how should I rebalance my ssb since the amount in ssb will remain the same throughout the years. Should I buy and sell as well?

Need some opinions on this.

Would you place your annuity plan (lump sum paid) under bond component (using guaranteed interest) or leave it out entirely from your portfolio?

Will be using my SA as bond component starting next month once I make another annual lump sum into equities. This would bring down my equities ratio to 60%. Intending to bring it up back to 80% within the next 2 years.

There are often questions about using SCB vs IBKR, and what if buying monthly/bimonthly/quarterly... I tried to model the costs of the commonly discussed options in a spreadsheet -- no idea if it will make sense or be useful to anyone else, but here it is:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BqIhbYNJF7VJbtj6PS08Csbyx1s4vs_03Kvh0pPRUCI/edit?usp=sharing

I'm sure someone will point out if there are any glaring errors :s22:

I did find it a bit surprising that while it makes sense to use IBKR over SC if you're intending to buy $700/mth of IWDA on monthly basis, SC is still cheaper up to $1800/mth on quarterly basis. I'm not sure how to weigh the value of clocking in more time-in-market, to decide between investing monthly over bimonthly or quarterly.

(You'll have to make a copy for yourself to plug in your favourite scenario. Click on File -> Make a copy.)

So basically less than $600 per month should be fine right for scb ?

Does anyone know why the historical prices for IWDA are wrong on yahoo finance except for the last day?

See below on the chart, if you select something else than 1D, then the chart shows prices like 4700 USD

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/IWDA.L/chart?p=IWDA.L

Weirdly, platforms like AlphaVantage also report the same erroneous historical price: https://www.alphavantage.co/query?a...tion=TIME_SERIES_DAILY_ADJUSTED&symbol=IWDA.L

What are the updates between the second edition and third edition of Rich By Retirement? Worth to buy another copy?

I still fail to buy any IWDA when I put 58.9 yesterday :(

I can only try again on monday right?

That's because IWDA only traded at $58.90 a couple of times during the day on Friday, and you probably weren't at the front of the queue to buy it at that price.

If IWDA is currently quoted at, say, $59, then it's OK to put in a buy order at $59.10. That guarantees that you'll pay no worse than $59.10, and if there's someone willing to sell it cheaper, you'll get that cheaper price. You should be doing this instead of bidding below the market and hoping it comes to you.
