I have both a retail and online units. Both of my warranty starts from the day I activated the phones.
Sometimes people do encounter their warranty starts on the day of invoice for online orders. All you need to do is to call up Apple and ask them to bring forward the warranty date to when you first receive the device.
Wow. So good that they are willing to do that.
