I'm a civil servant, drawing between 3-4k monthly. Thought of growing the money with investments and thus started with StashAway first as I have little investment/financial knowledge. Started an account with them (free 6 months management fee I think) on Oct/Nov 18 when the market was down and got approximately 5-6++% when the market recovered (purely by luck).

I have been reading up on moneymind and only recently have I started to DIY through IBKR... hoping to accumulate and reduce the fees in the long run. Need to learn from all the masters here.

Any reason why not?

I dont like the element of trading behind the ERAA model. They can say they backtested in GFC or whatever, but I want something that is more consistent. I am going to put my money in for a good 20+ years, why would I trust a trading idea that has only been around for 3 years top?

Wow all the more impressive. Just how do you manage to save so much on a $3-4k monthly salary is beyond me. And i don't mean that in a condesending way. I mean i (and my wife - no kids) spend $3-4k p.m on monthly household expenses, mortgage, insurance, etc. You really have the discipline to live a spartan life. Kuddos.

Likely a saf regular? 3 meals provided so nothing much to spend on. If stay-in, can save more on transport.

Hello Shiny Thing. Thank you for all your posts thus far. Have been reading up on them and trying to learn along the way.

I understand that many would advocate buying IWDA and I am wondering if there is a need for me to exit my StashAway positions and slowly put it into IWDA and EIMI monthly?

Many thanks

Glad you enjoyed it!

Hmm... personally I'd wind down the Stashaway investment, yeah, just because it's easier to keep your investments at a smaller number of brokers. And I'm not personally a huge fan of the current lineup of Singaporean roboadvisors.

Indeed admirable that he can resist the temptation. But YOLO is true...You really only live once..Simply eating cheap food, don't hang out with your friends and don't go travel to explore the world..is that really living? Or cherishing your youth? Haha..I not saying to splash your money but some money got to spend, just spend. But ofc each to his own, kudos to him for sticking to his plans ;)

Not necessarily mutually exclusive. With my take home income, I spend 50% on necessary expenses, 30% on investments, 20% on savings. Once I built my emergency savings (from investment and savings allocation initially), the 20% savings can go towards saving for YOLO experiences.

if you've ever played any computer game in "hardcore" mode (no resurrection, once dead forever dead), you will know what YOLO really means :s13: hardcore players tend to spam armour, defence and health, because there's no second chance if they die!

It's nearing year-end and am looking to top up $15k into my SRS.
With the SRS funds, I'm thinking to just lump sum into MBH (I'm separately doing DCA for IWDA with cash).

Any potential pitfalls with this? Thanks!

I'm planning to do the same. Am wondering if split into a few installments (DCA) is worth it, but interest in SRS itself is pitiful.

Price of MBH is steadily increasing past few months. I wonder if this is normal/sustainable? What kind of conditions will it take for the share price to take a dip?

Thanks!

hi ST,

1. what do you think of the current all-time high of SPY?
are we heading towards a bubble there?
Ray Dalio announced that he's shorting it with a 1b usd fund.

2.1. what do you think of the 2008 till present QE?
do you think we would follow a similar trajectory just like what Japan did as they did their first national QE to save every japanese biz in the 90s' which resulted in an eventual bubble burst. They never really recovered from it and has gone through decades of deflation.

In the same light, do you think we would also be going through the same trajectory as what happened through 08 was a series of global QE.

2.2. With all these liquidity, do you think this is the reason why we have the longest bull-run?

3. Do you think that we will run into the liquidity trap? So essentially, what is necessary is inflation and a sharp raise in interest rates instead of a flat, near-zero at the Fed side of things?

We actually just had another QE in 2019, surprisingly.

Hope to hear your thoughts on the above, thanks!
