U in data science field also?

Yes. I tell my staff and interns not to focus only on data science. if not sure die. Don’t blindly follow the trend. Develop a niche. If the day comes when it just becomes software support that can be outsourced to India, then you are screwed. I’m not even a data scientist by training, so to speak. Definitely need more skills and knowledge, particularly domain knowledge.

Data science can be fully automated with AI. Same view.

Let’s assume you’re not really someone who already loves this kind of work but you are just considering a career option that you think will pay well. Nothing wrong with that of course. Good to be honest with yourself.

Then I would suggest you think a little harder about the job market. Is this a type of job that will be around for a long time? Does it pay well and is it something that can be sustained for years to come?

There are domain roles with better longevity, that also pay well. Even if you equip yourself with data science skills, do so in these domains, rather than just becoming a data scientist. This way, even if the fad blows over, you can still survive.

Can take a look at this:

My company hires quite a number of NUS Masters in Business Analytics graduates but since very few locals do it, my bosses ended up hiring FTs.

To fellow locals who feel stuck and want some career progress, why not give it a try to get your feet into the large MNCs? Most foreigners I have seen are very into skills upgrade so they really don't mind taking loans just to do such courses.

What industry is your firm in?

Is it a non data science firm hiring data science roles or it’s a data science firm?

If you are really good programmer, just go win some python or machine learning competition and you have 100k+ offers easily.

This is a skills and ibtelligence thing, 100 years in a job won't teach u how to do 5% of such stuff.

First u need to be smart enough to learn it. I think only 10% of uni grads ard me I see can understand it. Then u need to have a year or two to learn it.

Most of the time you need to go to uni and be involved with research. That's why many ml engineers are PhDs.

Sent from Self-Partnered Partial Hikkiki using GAGT

Tbh, our data science team really isn't PhD material, mediocre programmers and they are already being paid $100K+. :s13: They are pretty good at talking though so my suggestion is whoever wants to get a career in it should at least know how to present and speak eloquently on top of data science skills.
